Prepare for the worst

Bankruptcy is almost inevitable at this point. I can’t believe how quickly things turned so sour. I hate to say it, but QVC and, by extension, HSN, seem headed down the same path as Blockbuster and other companies that served their purpose but became outdated and faded out. It’s probably time to start looking for a new job.

Comcast has changed so much

I had been with Comcast for over 15 years and had a lot of stock options, hoping each year for a big payday. Even though I wasn't happy with the direction the company was going, I stayed because I kept thinking there might be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Nine months ago, I decided enough was enough and took the plunge to find a new job. I only wish I had done it sooner. Financially, I make just as much as I did at Comcast, but the difference in the work environment is night and day. It's incredible to be part of a growing company that has a forward-looking vision!

Looking back at my time at Comcast, we spent so much energy trying to prevent customer losses and minimize layoffs every quarter. There was no real hope for the future. Everyone knew that video was a dying service, phone services were on the decline, broadband had limited growth potential (moving from a monopoly to a shrinking market share), and wireless was a low-margin business that couldn’t save the company.

I truly loved working at Comcast for many years. It was a great company, and I'm incredibly proud of the work we did. We had a fantastic team with some amazing employees, and I had great relationships with my boss and his manager. But the reality is, Comcast is in a steep decline and won’t turn things around anytime soon—not next quarter, not next year. Video is dying. Voice services are disappearing. Broadband, which had a 53% market share just three years ago, is now down to 48%, and could fall to 30-35% in the coming years, meaning millions more customers will leave. The company can't fix these problems by just raising prices anymore.

Bumping from @a9+1keab2k30, well said.

Possible layoffs in Lowell

The city of Lowell is preparing for a worst-case scenario for its upcoming budget season, advising its department heads to be “conservative” with their fiscal 2027 budget requests and warning of hiring freezes and personnel reductions.

The most insulting way to lay people off

Getting laid off is like a bad performance everyone pretends is respectful. They read a script, hide behind wording, shove legal paperwork at you, and act like they care. Then they'll turn around and refill the same role like nothing happened most likely within months. That part is what really makes it hard to swallow.

Dell is just a clown show

That’s all I need to say. No direction. Constant changes, flailing changes. No ability to execute or even plan. Talking about things like RTO but not really enforcing it. Schedules constantly missed. Huge investments in contractors. Hiring but constantly laying off for no reason. Not a single technologist at an SVP or executive level. No results just talk.

It’s just a bunch of clowns. The notion of running a business is gone. It’s just about how much can I stuff in my pocket before the thing goes defunct. Pathetic and sad.

No layoffs this month huh?

I'm honestly curious as to why becuase it's always started around this time for the last like 8 years; but haven't heard of any groups being hit hard. I mean yeah, layoffs are a constant thing at Dell but I'm talking about the "big" layoffs they have twice a year. One of which should have already started by now..

Housecalls Updates

Please share any updates. To summarize: there are reports from some posters re visit cancelations, no zone assignments, and lighters schedules. So far it appears that only CA and PA were mentioned. Since 02/19 is next week please share any information if known.

Thank you for the raise... opps, forget about the under paid dregs in Arizona.

Well another year or three will go by again without a raise.
Thank God all of you people in Seattle get yours, so you can fuel those black SUV’s. It’s a good look.
If I could spend what Seattle upper management Spends on gas, and buy groceries... I wouldn’t be having top ramen 6 days a week for dinner.
Do something about the wages Nordstrom pays in Arizona compared
to the rest of the nation.
Equality wages are needed across the board.

WARN Notices

There are many posts about RIFs and advice often posted on social media is to watch WARN trackers. I checked several major states and don’t see many, if any, Elevance notices. But I know people in some of those states were RIFed and given the 60-day notice. (Everyone was remote so I checked physical state and IN.)

Has anyone ever actually been tipped off with the WARN trackers, specifically for Elevance?

Anybody else has trouble believing this?

It's all about the age

Removing people with seniority = removing OLDER employees. It's always the same. When they do a "reorg" with layoffs, they slice and dice the data to hide the age impact. Then they rinse and repeat every couple of years. They don't care about their "teammates." They routinely clean house of the older, more experienced and expensive workers to make the company's financials look better for "The Street" and try to improve the stock price. Most of those folks have 3 years worth of unvested restricted stock that they LOSE when they get laid off and then those shares revert to the company's coffers. They give people NO NOTICE, knowing 99% of them will sign their sh---y severance agreement waiving their right to sue because they need the money. It's horrible the way they treat people.

Good post, it should be in its own thread. The original poster is @7jc+1kd557pb0.

Imagine That

Centene is navigating significant financial pressures heading into 2026, including a massive $6.6 billion loss in 2025 and projected 20% increases in 2026 ACA premium costs, which have driven ongoing restructuring and, for 2026, an environment of continued instability and potential, ongoing, or expected job reductions rather than a single, massive 2026 announcement.

Continued Instability: Following 2023's 2,000-job reduction, employees have reported ongoing, major layoffs and restructuring as of early 2026.

Financial Pressures: Centene reported a $1.1 billion loss for the fourth quarter of 2025, with a $6.6 billion loss for the full year 2025.

Market Challenges: The company is managing lower-than-expected enrollment in ACA plans, significant hits to Medicare Advantage revenue, and rising Medicaid costs.

Expected Trends: Analysts and reports suggest potential further cuts as the company attempts to stabilize after facing immense pressures on Medicaid and marketplace plans.

Although a specific "2026 headline" of X,X-X jobs has not been announced as of early 2026, the company is actively undergoing restructuring to manage significant losses, according to reports in early 2026.
