Credit Admin was told to work from home due to ceiling repair. The following week layoffs came. Turns out there was no ceiling repairs. They needed all the admins at home to give them the boot via zoom.
100 stock shares, ESPP, bonuses, 2 percent discretionary 401k
Can we just assume we’ll have none of these benefits anymore?
Are we sure there'll be no surprise rounds before the end of the year?
I don't trust them anymore when they say it's over.
Hate To Say I Told You So!
2%?? TD Mike and AMEX SB Dunk Sathish must really be struggling. Imagine going back and telling HR "we need to cut 2%" instead of learning how to balance a budget. I told yall this months ago it was coming. Told you last month too. And someone wanted... — read more
How did they decide who to let go?
Because it 100% was not performance. We lost two teammates who were among the best, and we have a few who could/should have been laid off instead and are still here. It really su-ks knowing that hard work will not protect you in situations like this... — read more
It’s going to be OK
All these layoffs su-k. They absolutely su-k. But I think in time for those of us still here, it’ll eventually be OK. I just hope these layoffs don’t start to tear away at the culture.
TD Mike & AMEX Sateesh Got Your Back
Just saying. It's all good.
So, in summary...
Ally Financial had layoffs today, impacting about 2% of employees as part of workforce consolidation and process optimization (oh, this sounds so official). Ally is shifting teams and focus... it's reorganizing its structure let's say they are... — read more

I have 1:1 in an hour
Is this it? Is this how people are notified? Is there any chance this could be something else? I feel sick to my stomach.
How to 100 percent avoid layoffs
If you feel like there’s going to be a lay-off on a particular day, take PTO for that day. They can’t legally lay off someone on PTO, so they’d just add a different name that isn’t out that day to do that.
Layoff Details
The news is going out Monday. Approx 400 employees will be let go across the org. No specific business lines targeted. Enterprise wide. Primarily people in management roles will be let go.
AI
Anyone else's team being pushed to use that AI tool? It actually feels like they're adding another step in our processes for little reason. Training it to do our jobs? Maybe I need a pedicure.

January Layoffs
So I heard TD Mike and AMEX Sathish are at it again discussing layoffs. Imagine enjoying your holidays with family and then walking into work on January 6th, 2026 and being told "the bank didn't meet our goals so we have to let you go." That's... — read more
How do they decide who gets let go?
Who makes the decision on who actually gets laid off? And is it mainly the non-senior people who get cut?
Layoffs at Ally have begun…
Already started hitting HR and other areas. Likely won’t see WARN notices for another 30-90 days due to paid leaves given.
Opposite of an ally is an.....
enemy. If you’ve got an attorney or know someone who does, drop their name in the comments. Let’s team up to hold Ally accountable—they’ve got a terrible track record of discrimination and the new leadership is only making things worse.
What I Hear
overheard layoffs might be hitting marketing. Anyone else hear some rumblings?
Well well well
The list of major companies laying off staff this year includes Oracle, Kroger, Nike, Scale AI, and more Ally is cutting less than 5% of workers. The digital-financial-services company Ally is laying off roughly 500 of its 11,000 employees, a... — read more
Tired of this, grandpa
So like. Are we actually expecting layoffs, or did that guy just shout "fire" in a movie theater for kicks?
More Layoffs Are Coming In October
FYI. Dead serious.
PTSD post Ally
I think I may have work PTSD from my time with Ally… my partner encouraged me to look for about two years while he fielded my late nights, early mornings, constant emotional breakdowns, and rants about toxic coworkers. My new company is completely... — read more

How are those AI initiatives going?
https://futurism.com/companies-fixing-ai-replacement-mistakes Not relevant at all to Ally. Just thought it was interesting. I see no parallels between what happened here and what some people envision as the Bank's future.
Ally Bank Acquisition - Synchrony or SoFi
TD Mike was brought in by the Board of Directors to position Ally to be acquired. As soon as he's brought on, Lending is sold (I lost a lot of friends) - six months later Russ Hutchinson is in NYC tanking our stock price, and four months after that... — read more
6 Months Post Layoff - Best Thing Ever!
What up chat! Figured I'd drop you all a line now that I'm clean and clear with the bag Ally gave me to walk and beyond the date range where I couldn't say anything. Landed a role in the Big Four right at the end of the 60 day severance period of... — read more

Middle layers exits in Technology
Have you observed recently lot of exits across technology including those from tenured employees? Ally maintains that its standard attrition but the reality seems to be different. What's your thoughts?
Has anyone in IT noticed
Have you wondered if all the new hires are really permanent employees or temporary/contract employees? When the first few hiring freezes came into effect that was for a reason. To deceive everyone especially those in IT. Did you notice that soon... — read more
Randomly thought about Ally today
Haven’t worked there in years. How’s it going over there these days? From what I've read so far, not much has improved. I hope my old crew is doing well, though. Shout out to Philadelphia folks!
Why do we keep hiring?
I have nothing against hiring in general, but with several layoffs already this year and talk of even more, why do we keep adding more employees? Shouldn't there be a hiring freeze until they're done with cuts? It kind of makes no sense to lay off a... — read more
I’ve been on the lookout for other opportunities
But the situation is pretty dire. I don’t enjoy my job at Ally, but I suppose I’ll need to shift my focus toward holding on to it, at least if there’s any way I can influence that outcome. If you have any positive experience or advice about the job... — read more
Advancement avenues

Good quarterly results
The results were better than I expected, to the point where I’m actually feeling a bit optimistic about layoffs. I’m hoping this will at least slow down the next round. Or maybe I’m just being naive, who knows.
Can’t wait to see how they’ll handle the next round of cuts
They’ve already reduced so many teams to the bare minimum that it seems almost impossible to make more cuts without hitting a breaking point.
