What Microsoft’s layoff denial reveals about viral rumors

Microsoft‘s communications chief did something unusual this month. He publicly shot down layoff rumors before they could metastasize. When anonymous posts on Reddit and Blind claimed the company planned to cut up to 22,000 jobs in January, Frank Shaw took to X with an unequivocal response, calling the reports “100 percent made up/speculative/wrong.”

2026 final layoff numbers…..

Lots of post about not knowing the total layoff numbers for 2026. A few things:

  • There is no final number YET. Layoffs are still happening at least through the end of this month. Maybe into February.

  • Those impacted are technically are garden leave until April 2nd and are still on the payroll.

  • April 2nd, is when the RIF numbers will be in warn and when the media will start to report on it. That’s when you will get the final number of people let go.

No conspiracy or withholding information. That’s how the process works.

10k RIF is the rumor, we will see if it’s true.

You know what su-ks?

No matter how long you've been here, how much knowledge and experience you have, you have the same chance of being laid off as somebody who just joined. Everything you did here in the past decade or however long doesn't matter. And that truly su-ks.

How do layoffs affect the stock price?

I keep hearing that the reason this company does layoffs is to help the stock price. But since they never do a formal press release announcing the layoffs, how can layoffs possibly affect the stock? I thought the whole point of laying people off a little at a time was so that the public doesn't find out.

Converse closing a dozen or so stores

I’ve been told that Converse retail is in a huge downward spiral. A dozen or so stores are being closed in the coming months and the stores that remain open barely have any product on their shelves. The person I know believes even the profitable stores are being closed when the leases are up. Anyone know anything else from the Converse-side of things?
