Fake it until you make it

This! The good word is that all GB will be in Alpha. No New York or Berkeley No Omaha No Milwaukee! So let’s train the young and use the coward-less and nieve! Writing is on the wall people! Appropriate for the month of Oct. Tricky! Oh and buhby SW!

Severance Agreement & Training

Did you already sign the severance agreement?

Companies like Oracle are expected to prepare employees for future technologies? Were there any yearly training plan offered?

I would have hoped there were some future technologies or some kind of training offered for any employees to make them get ready for internal or external positions.

What are your thoughts on this?

The OpenText Storyteller Quest by Sandy

Is this even legal? It’s a mandatory “training” where all marketing personnel are required to video record themselves and narrate a story based on a script. In my opinion, this is a North Korean-style approach to engaging employees and creating a false perception of the company’s success, all while everyone is overworked, poorly managed, and laid off every six months!

Training department layoffs

Today, myself and several of my colleagues in Learning and development were laid off in a round of “reorg.” This was the third reorg in 3 years. They had announced a reorg over a month ago, but when executives were asked about layoffs during a meeting, they evaded the question. Today, they also refused to disclose how many people were affected.

This company is absurd. Every October, they conduct layoffs. The executives should be the ones laid off.

Im still waiting to hear about the severance package. Anyone know?

Online Training

one thing i actually miss from my time in sales is those endles online trainings.

they were never abot learning. it was all about pretending. the training team would upload a new course, send an email, and give us a deadline about a month away.

and for 29 whole days nobody on the sales team even looked at it. ignoring it was almost a point of pride. then on day 30 the alarms went off. an email from the boss, marked urgent, full of capital letters and exclamation marks. suddenly it was a crisis.

so we’d all log in, open the training, and click through slide after slide without reading a single word. nobody cared about the content. the only goal was to reach the quiz at the end.

most quizzes needed 80 percent or better to pass. we didn’t study, we just guessed. sometimes someone got lucky on the first try, and then they’d share the answers with everyone else. if you failed, no big deal. you could just keep trying until you passed.

once in a while the system only gave you three tries. that always made me laugh. like what’s supposed to happen if we fail all three? do we get fired on the spot? does the computer lock up forever? nothing ever happened, of course.

in the end, the whole thing was a game. not about learning, not about improving, just about checking a box. and somehow, that’s exactly what made it memorable.

AI or Die?

Anyone else received the same message? Just been told by my manager if not displaying proficiency by end of year (its mid September already!!) it will be factored into year end and if not using everyday by Q2 I'll be out!

Ill be honest, I don't think I could stomach it. Just pay me off and I'll go work in Target

Dev days

They really cut the budget huh? Ive learned more from a high school substitute teacher than these "presentations" on grainy zoom video from offshore.

IT layoffs

Ryan noted 20-25% but that's an average arcoss the company. IT layoffs will be a much are higher %. If you are in certain groups then you've already seen the contracts being lined up for contractors to replace entire groups and even orgs IT.

The only question is how much will happen in November or how many will be asked to stay longer to train their replacements. Remember the CEP team is now working through 2026.

It’s not just this company

Keep an eye on the waning demand for Labor generally and be prepared eg with resumes and maybe even retraining.

Bloomberg today:

It’s only the third day of a much-feared month of September and sobering US economic news is already piling up.

Yesterday it was six straight months of shrinking manufacturing. Today it’s job openings falling in July to the lowest in 10 months, adding to other employment data (including a report last month that caused Donald Trump to fire the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics) showing America’s once-robust post-pandemic jobs landscape continues to darken.

Even worse, the sectors most responsible for the new numbers aren’t cyclical and had been recent drivers of growth. Available positions decreased to 7.18 million from a downwardly revised 7.36 million in June, according to data published Wednesday by the BLS, a division of the US Department of Labor. The median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of economists called for 7.38 million openings.

Tech elevate CSS / CX waste of $$$

Thousands of customer success specialists from CX went to vegas from all over the world including India China Portugal Poland etc to attend extremely underwhelming training 2 days on the weekend before GSX and didn’t even get to stay for GSX. Millions of $$$ down the drain in international travel for everyone. Would rather have a full merit program than this crapshow. Sales kickoff I understand important but in the name of technical training of 2 days travel from across the globe just to hang out and drink is not the best use of resources. Good job CX leadership yet again.

how to milk Cisco on the way out

Hi, for fellows here, anyone know how to milk best fridge benefit before the last day?

  1. ask for training , Cisco pay for a training 1 week after the impact.. and then cancel and reschedule to future months, some of the classes are good and last 1 week
some training are free while you are at Cisco, and getting it require no approval.

  2. anything else to sign up? like employee discounts and etc?

some of my past fellows did msoft discount, apple discount and etc.. travel discount. one of them went through training 2 months down the road. cost nothing.

anything else?

Fidelity wins

I’m leaving the industry because of my manager. I have discussed this with my spouse and I cannot take the new culture. I went through all the channels listed in the annual hr trainings and haven’t noticed a positive difference with my manager. I’m a top performer in my department and keep my head down, I’m a low level employee so my mental health is more important.

The force out has begun

Writing up employees and managers left and right. Adding more and more responsibilities on all. Constant changes with no training or notice of the change. Constant emails of impending changes. Constant meetings, messages, sxs, 1 on 1. More and more coming everyday. And they are starting to drop like flies. SF is shaking the tree before the big reorganization.

Training BTC

Did anyone else that's resigned recently get a bunch of desperate, last minute requests to train BTC people on your way out the door? I ended up being too busy to get to around it.

Tired of getting denied for trainings

They always have "no budget"

No one goes to conferences, no one does anything to really push their career.

This company is just full of excuses for one thing another.

Im tired and done stagnating my career here.

Im getting off the titanic; everyone else should too but lets be honest if you are here for more than 5 years, you are already at the dead end of your career and everyone knows it

How do you like Dell AI Sales Chat?

people dont like using the sales chat cuz its slow, wrong half the time, and just makes more work instead of less... the data in it is kinda trash so the answers come out trash too... bosses keep pushing us to hit some random kpi even when we dont even need it that week... feels like were just trainning the thing to take our jobs one day and thats not cool...
