BU Mass Layoffs Going Unreported???

I work in the BU in Dallas and last week we had hundreds of people laid off but I haven’t seen any exact numbers or big news outlets talking about this at all… I feel like this was a very dramatic cut but I’m confused why the media isn’t talking about that and instead they’re talking about the much smaller December layoffs…

More cuts in Texas

  • DSTV Inc. - 169 layoffs in Irving tied to State Department visa pre-processing, some may be rehired by USCIS.
  • Texas Instruments - 163 layoffs at Dallas plant, 150mm production line closing by April 30.
  • Seatrium AmFELS - 91 layoffs in Brownsville as company sells yard for $65 million.
  • Urban Alchemy - 99 layoffs in Austin after city ended contract with the nonprofit.

Sarnia?

Can anyone clarify the current situation and schedule for Imperial’s Sarnia research facilities? I had heard they were being shuttered and relocated to Texas, but more recently I’ve seen that fewer than 100 personnel may be affected, with changes phased in through 2028.

Does anyone have factual updates or confirmation on what’s actually happening?

Texas layoff wave grows as Amazon contractor cuts jobs

Another slew of mass layoffs is set to hit a logistics services company, as Texas continues to brace for job losses amid a weakening economy.

Accelore Group, LLC announced plans to eliminate 107 positions in Tarrant County and 107 positions in Dallas County, according to new reports filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

The layoffs will take place at the company's Amazon Logistics locations in Fort Worth and Balch Springs.

Essendant and CyraCom Layoffs in Houston (2025)

Hundreds of layoffs are coming to Houston as two major companies downsize their local operations.

CyraCom International, a remote interpretation provider recently acquired by Propio, will close its Houston facility and eliminate 355 jobs beginning December 1. The cuts include interpreters in Spanish, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Arabic and several other languages. CyraCom’s Arizona office will also see about 500 jobs cut as part of the restructuring.

Essendant Management Services, a distribution company, has also announced plans to cut 92 jobs in Houston this November due to business downsizing.

These announcements come after recent WARN Act filings revealed nearly 1,900 layoffs statewide from August through October, with Houston shouldering most of the impact. Both CyraCom and Essendant have not yet provided further comment.

Tesla Ends Contractor Agreement at Giga Texas, 82 Workers Laid Off

Tesla has unexpectedly ended its contract with MPW Industrial Services Inc. at Gigafactory Texas, leading to the layoff of 82 workers who supported operations at the Austin facility.

According to a #WARN notice filed with the #Texas Workforce Commission on August 27, 2025, the terminations will take effect September 1. The cuts affect 61 technicians, 7 team leads, 7 supervisors, and 7 managers. The workers are not union-represented and have no bumping rights.

MPW, an Ohio-based industrial services provider, specializes in cleaning and facility management. The layoffs are directly tied to the sudden termination of Tesla’s contract.

This comes against the backdrop of Tesla’s broader #workforce reductions. In April 2024, the company laid off over 2,000 employees in Austin. Since then, Tesla’s sales have declined, and while a temporary Q3 boost is expected due to expiring tax credits, analysts forecast further sales drops in late 2025 and early 2026.

Industry watchers suggest this #contractors cut could be a precursor to more layoffs, with Tesla historically starting with outside partners before reducing internal headcount. Some speculate the move is tied to cost-cutting and production slowdowns to avoid oversupply.

Electrek’s analysis warns that Tesla may be on the verge of another wave of staff reductions in the US, particularly as EV demand softens. While other factors could explain the contract termination, the timing aligns with the company’s need to adjust ahead of a potential downturn.

New HQ Locations?

Maybe I’m just completely out of the loop, but there are some job postings on the external career site that are in random locations. One in Dallas, one in Salt Lake City Utah (assuming that one is the bank), and the third in West Palm Beach, FL? What’s with this?

Any word on tech jobs coming back to the states? Heard GCC is a total joke.

Customers again not happy with TransUnion passing all the jobs to India, costa rica among other countries. Can't be happy with the UK, they don't work overtime and you can't get hold of them during pub hours. Let's outsource 100% of IT to another countries but have DEI personnel who works in Texas lead GCC. How does one lead from US who not on the same time schedule, sounds like that person has a husband saving her a-s. Here reports of nothing getting done, do these board members even give a sh-t?

Can you apply for Unemployment if you accept the severance deal though? I thought you had to wait until severance runs out before applying. #texas
