One Therapist, many Exxon Clients, Same Story

I’ve started seeing a therapist because I’ve been dealing with intense anxiety from the hostile work environment. The company covers up to eight sessions through their ComPsych program. What surprised me was how many ExxonMobil employees she had worked with before me—and how familiar she already was with the toxic culture, the dishonesty, the backstabbing, and the s-xism. It was eye‑opening to realize that one therapist in Spring, TX had so many clients dealing with mental health issues from the same company.

You will hear similar stories from other physicians. Many doctors are aware of XOM’s toxic environment.

XOM bends over backwards for women but they still complain all the time. Really nothing will satisfy them.

Work matters—but it isn’t your life. Do your best, then prioritize your well-being because you’re not replaceable, even if your job is. Take care of yourself.

20+ year employee here.

It took me probably too long to realize this but it is just a job.

ExxonMobil is not worth an ounce of your health. Get in. Get the job done. Go home. You will never change the culture because there is just too much money in oil.

Regardless of all their bad decisions…..they almost always make a profit.

@j0 Are you for real? I had to take short term disability because of abortion and when I came back pretty much everyone in the office knew! Very "professional "management.

Things that never happened for $1,000. It would be highly unethical for a therapist to say anything about other patients.

I once had a therapist confuse me with another employee.

@a6 LOL, I, outside your section, heard this. He’s always the first to speak in every meeting, and he even tried to build visibility by donating $1000 to the UW campaign and going to MZ’s house. He consistently looks for ways to stay in the spotlight. Some people are just all about self-promotion.

completely relate to this post. I was dealing with a pervert manager while who made me sick to death, and I started seeing a therapist. When working on my medical‑leave paperwork, the therapist noticed the manager’s name and said, " no, my other EM client had a different manager." Apparently, she thought I was talking about someone she’d already heard troubling things about. It made me realize I wasn’t the only one ...

@a5 When the "We Are ExxonMobil" results came out for our section, one of the lowest‑scoring items was “My manager cares about my well‑being.” my manager moved on quickly, and a teammate immediately jumped in with an overly enthusiastic defense: “I think you’re very caring — there must be a mistake.” . People will do anything for ranking, and the enthusiasm to please was almost theatrical.

I’m sorry it’s come to that for you and happy to hear you’ve found someone to help you. Mental health is so important.

Probably why they offer the benefit, they know they are mentally torturing you. Only place I’ve worked that no one has any empathy or actually cares for your well being. Either be like us or leave is the message.

I had the same problems at another company. It isn't you. You'll be much happier elsewhere.
