Saks Off 5th, the off-price retailer within Saks Global, will close nine of its 79 locations beginning in January, WWD has learned.

  • [ ] The decision to close stores follows an extensive analysis of the fleet, including market dynamics, lease expirations, customer behavior and long-term business potential, to focus more on high-performing and high-potential locations.
“We have identified opportunities to optimize our Saks Off 5th store presence, through both initiatives to drive performance and elevate the customer experience, enabling us to place greater attention to our high-performing and high-potential store locations, and refinements across our store footprint,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “As part of our ongoing and comprehensive strategy, we have taken a critical eye to our store footprint and will be closing select store locations in early 2026. We are confident this will better position the Saks Off 5th business for long-term success and look forward to continuing to deliver for our customers.”

Saks Off 5th is also vacating its 57th Street location in Manhattan, located in an office tower at 125 East 57th Street near Lexington Avenue, as previously reported. The property was sold to a new owner, who plans to create residences on the site, meaning there will be construction disrupting business at the store. One source said that due to the impending construction, which is seen occurring over at least two years, Saks Off 5th decided to vacate the space. It’s not clear whether other factors were involved in the decision. However, the store will continue to be open for business through the holiday season.

Asked if there will be more Saks Off 5th closings beyond the 10, the company indicated in a statement, “Through the regular course of business, we continually evaluate store performance and, from time to time, may determine it necessary to reformat or close a store.”
However, while closing certain Off 5th stores, Saks Global said that it is making some investments in better-performing Off 5th stores. “We have been piloting new initiatives, including initiating capital enhancements in certain stores, elevating our selling model and enhancing our in-store assortment. We look forward to extending our learnings across our top locations,” the company indicated in its statement.

The nine Saks Off 5th closing next year are on State Street in Chicago, and in Austin; East Hanover, N.J.; Philadelphia Mills, Pa.; Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Pittsburgh North, Pa.; Plymouth Meeting, Pa.; Washington, DC, and West Hartford, Conn.
Saks Off 5th is providing for those impacted by the closings with transfer opportunities to nearby Saks Off 5th locations where possible, and eligible full-time colleagues will be offered separation packages consistent with the company’s severance plan.
As part of a management shakeup at Saks Global disclosed last month, Kim Miller, who was president of Saks Off 5th, shifted to chief customer officer, a new corporate position. Genny Siller, who was vice president of merchandise planning at Saks Off 5th, became senior vice president and general manager of Saks Off 5th, reporting to Marc Metrick, chief executive officer of Saks Global. These and other management changes at Saks Global were triggered by the departure of Emily Essner, who was president and chief commercial officer.

NJ layoffs

https://patch.com/new-jersey/hoboken/optum-lay-572-workers-closing-pediatrics-mental-health-offices-nj

"Optum, a health provider owned by UnitedHealth that took over numerous medical practices in New Jersey in the past several years, will lay off as many as 572 workers over three months, according to WARN notices filed with the state.

The company began sending letters to patients on Monday informing them of medical practices that will close as of Nov. 30 — including some pediatric and specialty medical offices, and all of their mental health practices.

One email received by patients on Monday said Optum will cease offering behavioral health services throughout New Jersey after Nov. 30.

Another message received by patients in Hudson County, one of the most densely populated counties in the country, said four of the company's pediatrics offices will close as of Nov. 30.

According to four WARN notices filed with the state of New Jersey on Oct. 1 — required in advance of mass layoffs — Optum Care will lay off 572 employees statewide, with most paid through Feb. 2. Separately, Optum Medical Care will lay off 122 employees just in Secaucus by February and March. And Optum Select Services and Optum Management are laying off 60 workers total.

CSBBO closures tied to “location strategy,” but they’re still offering OT?

It looks like the CSBBO closures are part of the bank’s location strategy, focusing on consolidating some sites while expanding others.

What stands out is that for the past three days they have been sending messages like this:

Overtime available today, November 2, 2025. Overtime is available for Everyday Banking English and Spanish Bankers for the rest of today and tomorrow. Please log in, and your leader will report your worked hours to Resource Planning for processing.

If sites are closing, why push overtime right now? It almost seems like they are trying to meet short term goals before more news comes out.

Has anyone else heard which sites are next?

China closure, why?

There was no clear messaging as to the “why” of the China office closure. Anyone have insight? Clearly it’s not to bring jobs to back US as replacement hiring has been happening Glasgow since summer.

I wonder if SAS is chasing federal projects that have stated or implied requirements that development not occur there?

No issue with journalists mu---ring Saudis however. #saslife

Wexford office closing permanently on Nov 28th

Note of Thanks to Dublin Office

Please pass along my sincere thanks to the Dublin team for their exceptional engagement over the past 12 months regarding the Wexford office closure.

Their responsiveness and clear, compassionate communication have been critical in managing redundancies and arranging remote-working transitions.

Key highlights include rapid coordination with HR and line managers, thoughtful one-to-one support for impacted colleagues, timely IT onboarding for remote roles, and the practical FAQs and check-ins that helped reduce anxiety and uncertainty. Their professionalism and empathy have made a difficult process significantly more manageable for everyone involved.

I look forward to enhanced support from HR and Management across this business lines during the month of November.

Tuttle Crossing?

Customers keep asking me “when is this mall closing?” And “when will the sales start?” My coworker said that my store (Turtle Crossing in Columbus) is a top performing store but I get asked 10+ times if my store is closing. I have 5 children and 2 grand babies and 3 cats and a dog and a pig. I need my paycheck. I used to work at Sears, and then Jo-Ann Fabrics and Toys R Ys. I feel like a curse but I need my monies. Please tell me turtle crossing isn’t closing!

Woodstock Christian Life Services (Hearthstone Communities) Layoffs 2025

Company: Woodstock Christian Life Services (Hearthstone Communities)

  • Date: September 30, 2025
  • Laid off: 117

The facility is closing entirely for financial reasons. Hearthstone Communities, a senior living and nursing care provider in Woodstock, has operated for over a century. Attempts to find a buyer or otherwise avoid closure appear to have failed, causing the organization to shutter. The layoffs are not just reductions but part of full facility cessation.

Its Official, San Ramon will Close Summer 2026

If you are in San Ramon, schedule time with your boss. They should have all the information now. Looks like no flying back and forth will be allowed. Houston is now home and the time in office will be monitored and working remotely from San Ramon will not be allowed. Good luck my friends.

Rite Aid No More

Rite Aid is shutting down after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time on May 5, 2025.

It has filed 19 separate notices of store closures, raising the total number of shuttered locations to 1,288 across multiple states.

Recent filings add seven more closures in Washington and Oregon. Rite Aid had previously closed about 800 stores following its 2023 bankruptcy.

The chain is now winding down completely and disappearing from the U.S. retail landscape.
