"Houston We Have a Problem" XOM PIP Reallity

EM PIP in reality can be driven by statistics, internal politics, bias, or interpersonal conflicts not your performance. So many people end up on a PIP for reasons that have nothing to do with their actual work. Some examples I have seen in past years/teams:

  • He was put on a PIP after questioning unethical practices used by senior team members and suggesting better methods. They felt threatened and collectively turned against him.
  • She was sharp, social, and highly capable. Her manager recognized her potential and gave her additional responsibilities, which triggered jealousy among other women on the team who then ganged up on her.
  • He was new to the group, and instead of helping him integrate, they isolated him, refused to let him blend in, and targeted him for bottom ranking.
  • She consistently helped others develop, but instead of being recognized, her peers sabotaged her work because she was naïve and overly friendly.
How PIP Practices Often Work in Reality:
In many organizations, the outcome of a PIP is predetermined long before the process officially begins.
  • Some employees receive only a few formality emails and “pass” without any real process.
  • Some endure a three‑month ordeal that feels like a continuous interview, filled with pressure, bullying, and harassment—only to be told they “failed.”
  • Employees targeted for removal often face hostility, humiliation, and impossible expectations, and at the end they’re given vague statements like “We don’t think you’re a good fit.”
  • Some people have their PIP extended because of medical leave or mental‑health‑related disability leave, only to return and be failed anyway—or receive a letter saying their disability benefits are ending and they will be terminated if they cannot return...
Bottom line if you are not PIPed soley for statistics choose PIL....Up to you

Verizon is dying

I just talked to TMobile about switching and they were less than what I am paying at Verizon even after the employee discount and they are giving away new phones and they have a 2 year upgrade pipeline. Verizon's network coverage seems to have gone to sh-t.

I don't think even Dan the Hatchet Man can save this sinking ship.

Should I buy real estate in Plano?

I am thinking of buying up real estate right next to the new HQ over the next few years and then renting them out. There will always be employees of all kinds: single, families, and interns who will need a place to stay. Seems like a strong investment. Buy real estate and rent out to other employees.

A Tough Day

I would like to say this is it but I am afraid today was the first of a rough year. Great employees were told today they are no longer needed while others who don’t appear to contribute anything were spared. When the great employees are gone and their mediocre peers remain I see a bleak future for the rest of us.

89k Employee Count, 10% India+EMEA, 27% Union

80% of the 13,000 employees that were laid off last year were off the books by Dec 2025

Last year, our employee count was 99,205

VZ had 4,800 employees leave as part of the VSP by Mar 2025

This firm has been shedding employees for over a decade and its share price is -15% over the last 5 years.

Is there any employee rules that state Boeing employees that have company provided laptops must be logged on during work hours?

I can’t find any specific Boeing rules stating that. I’m asking because I have not logged on my computer during my shift for months now except for about five minutes before my shift ends to input my work hours. Our manager has been out for months on LOA for family reasons. If HR contacts me, I’m really not sure how they can due to my not reading or responding to any emails sent to me. If HR gets lucky getting a hold of me, I’m going to tell them there is no specific employee rules stating that I must be logged in my computer during my work hours. The Code of Conduct we are required to sign does not specifically state employees with company provided computers must be logged in throughout their working shift. So I believe I’m safe and not going to worry about it.

Charging employees for parking moving forward

Guess what, emails were out that employees who want to park at the office will start paying for parking, shortly after downgrading cubicle equipment to docks and monitors 10 years old.. that while Charlie gets his $40Million. Cheap tactics, did we hit the bottom of the barrel… well they will always find lower spots!

2019

Facts I find interesting.
We didnt have a CEO between March 28th and Oct 21st that yr.
Yet Net Income
Q1 $5.86B
Q2 $6.21B
Q3 $4.61B incl a 1.6B litigation so really $6.2B

We didnt even have a CEO. Q1 Tim Sloan even handed everyone in the company 30 shares, gave extra %sfor 401k matching over the yrs. Today Charlie has laid off 80k people, offices state side look like india... and he has worse financial numbers. Look at the pathetic number of shares he gave folks, you have to be here till mid 2028 as well. The problem with Chalie is he thinks Win/Lose, not Win/Win, and that's no way to operate a business, cheating employees to make numbers is the route to failure.

The two way street

All you hear is “there’s a storm a comin”, whatever. What most managers don’t realize or don’t care to realize is that for now things are slanted one way…..for now.
There is a storm coming, yeah, I get it, layoffs.

After the dust settles, there’s another story to tell coming from the employees. Things will be slanted the other way.

Bonus for laid off employees

Should laid off employees expect a 100% bonus payout on 2/27 if they were terminated due job elimination with no mention of performance? I assume most who were laid off in January never had a performance review with their leader…. Severance docs only mention pro rated bonus for 2026 and is unclear about how bonus for 2025 will be paid out

Total number of employees-Informational

The 10-K filing is now published.

As of 12/31/2025:
Total # of Employees: 133,030
Number of Retirees/Beneficiaries: ~477,000

Compared to 12/31/2024:
Total # of Employees: 140,990
Number of Retirees/Beneficiaries: ~496,000

They no longer breadkdown by domestic/international, age ranges, ethnicity, or anything else. Interestingly, they claimed 43% of the workforce is represented by collective bargaining which is unchanged from last year's, and still higher than previous years' 42%.

Qualcomm Climate Survey Transparency

The climate survey should be handled by an independent third party, with results shared transparently with employees. Currently, employees are pushed to participate, and there is no clear breakdown of results or visibility into improvement actions. In all-hands meetings, the data is presented positively, which does not reflect the actual work environment.

Prior Year Bonus Payment?

Does anyone know if prior year bonuses are paid-out if an employee resigns before the pay date in the current year? Obviously I cannot ask our HRBP because they’ll know about my departure before I’m ready to give notice.

This is specifically about a US-based employee.

While we are it, does anyone know if the quarterly bonuses due to revenue generating plans are paid-out if the employee leaves before the paycheck arrives?

Thanks!

Wealth

Sudden wealth is coming for many. It will allow many to walk out of the door without warning. It will cause Chaos in corporate America and the shift back to employee leverage will begin.

Clinicians…how do you reconcile working here?

Physicians, social workers, counselors, nurses….how do you do it? I’m not talking about finance, IT, or those departments. Just the member interacting employees. You can perform whatever mental gymnastics you want to make you sleep better at night, but you’re really just gatekeeping healthcare on behalf of a company who’s primary responsibility is to maximize financial gain for its shareholders. Doesn’t seem quite in the spirit of the Hippocratic Oath the Nightingale Pledge. It definitely wasn’t for me.

When will the US Cellular Slugs be Terminated?

Last August, T-Mobile made the mistake of retaining a good portion of the US Cellular workforce, especially the field technicians who have zero technical skills, are overpaid, constantly complain, and make comparisons to “the way they did it at US Cellular,” even though it is inconsequential. There are markets that are over indexed due to this additional “workforce” and it is likely that good T-Mobile employees will be terminated with the slugs remaining here in the near future. If the leadership had any bit of intelligence, they would dump those US Cellular slugs now and try to get back to the way the company was operating prior to both the Sprint and US Cellular disasters that are destroying the company

lululemon let go of 100 part-time workers who helped answer customer questions by phone, email, and chat.

These workers helped people every day, but the company decided it wants to use only full-time workers for this job instead.

Lululemon says this change will help them do a better job helping customers and make the business run more smoothly.

This is happening while the company is also looking for a new boss and dealing with some disagreements with its founder.

no store closures, just changes to how customer help is done.
