Almost all internal SAP jobs are fake

This is a passionate expression of frustration stemming from discussions with colleagues who have either been encouraged to seek new positions at SAP or are anxious about facing such a situation themselves, particularly within our European context.

A visit to the internal job portal reveals that most job postings seem to cater to specific individuals rather than genuinely opening opportunities for all. Common issues include unnecessary educational requirements, irrelevant experience criteria, location restrictions despite team distribution, and a requirement of very high German language skills or travel demands. It often appears that hiring managers have predetermined candidates in mind, using the recruitment process merely to appease the Betriebsrat, which leads to a cycle of favoritism and inflated salary increases for those already in the loop. This situation leaves little hope for our European colleagues who are being pushed to find new roles, as many of these misleading job ads will likely force them out of the company instead.

In my own area under MA, we've seen several individuals rapidly ascend the ranks or switch teams multiple times, often with significant salary boosts, highlighting the disparity in opportunities.

What can we do to improve this process for those facing job insecurity at SAP, especially when the available positions seem to favor personal connections over merit?

Good news for workers at waters on unequal pay

From summer 2026, new EU rules will come into force, introducing far-reaching changes in employers’ obligations regarding pay and pay transparency. The objective of Directive (EU) 2023/970 is to ensure effective equal pay for equal work and work of equal value, as well as to strengthen the transparency of recruitment and pay practices.

The upcoming rules raise a number of questions and practical challenges for employers, who should already start preparing now

Layoffs Spain 2

The previous thread is getting buried by new ones.
When will the layoffs be communicated? There's some conflicting info: next week, November, February. Collective layoff (ERE) or individual dismissals? Will there be differences based on the fiscal entitity?

Mercury International layoffs Oct. 2025

The so-called International Leadership Team will be firing 2/3 of the Geneva employees (about 40 peoples) over the next months, including all the Engineering team, as a restructuring of the EMEA activities. Ongoing and Future Engineering activities should be moved the Spain site and most likely heavily subcontracted.

Telefonica plans to lay off 6,000 workers this year

Spanish telecoms group Telefonica plans to lay off at least 6,000 employees across several units before the end of the year, newspaper Expansion reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the plans.

The total number of workers initially affected by the redundancy plan could rise to 7,000 out of a global workforce of around 100,000, the report added, although negotiations with unions tend to reduce such targets.

Layoffs in Europe announced

1,200 job cuts (~20% of the remaining workforce) announced yesterday at a European Forum meeting.
Head offices employees “offered”to move to production sites. Significant headcount reduction in GBCs at Prague (Czech Republic) and Budapest (Hungary), with jobs transferred to... Guess where? India, bingo.
This does not factor in possible sales/shutdown of chemical sites in the UK and Belgium.

Cuts across the globe

1200 jobs cut in Europe. Brussels office closing. Moves to Antwerp and Prague.

200 job cuts in Prague, but taking in ~90 from Brussels.

Singapore office to close. Employees moving to refinery with cuts.

900 cuts at Imperial oil (all above-field, 350 from sites, rest from Calgary)
Calgary office closing, employees moved to Strathcona.

20% reduction in headcount in ExxonMobil Canada (separate from Imperial Oil)

Employees are our greatest asset*

  • Provided we can pay them peanuts in developing nations

Imperial and Europe restructure next week

Check out the Imperial board this weekend. Those poor guys are worried. Looks like consolidation of employee in either Sarina or Edmonton. Calgary shutting down.

And next week huge layoffs in Europe except London where they released puff piece about doubling jobs there ahead of this.

EU set to lock in long-term US gas deals, says ExxonMobil

LONDON, Sept 10 — ExxonMobil expects the European Union to sign multi-decade US gas contracts under its pledge to buy billions of dollars of American energy, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.

The EU in July pledged to buy US$750 billion of US energy by 2028 as part of a sweeping trade pact with Washington.

Exxon and the EU did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

Peter Clarke, senior vice president of Exxon’s liquefied natural gas business, told the FT that Europe’s expanding LNG infrastructure made it “logical” to commit to longer-term supply, noting

Exxon sells about 80 per cent of its LNG under such contracts.

Europe is now “the most important market” for US LNG exports, and the next step will be for the continent “to figure out how it supports long-term contracting,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.

The US supplied 50 per cent of the EU’s liquefied natural gas imports in 2024, along with 17 per cent of oil and 35 per cent of coal, according to Eurostat. Any expansion in energy trade is likely to center on LNG, with the US the world’s top exporter of the fuel.

“We have seen in the data quite a big increase in LNG imports to Europe, year on year, it’s up about 20 per cent,” Clarke told FT, adding that 55 per cent of the imports were from the United States. — Reuters

Nosey parker

I hope this doesn’t come across the wrong way — I’m genuinely curious to understand how conversations landed and the shifts this week. Which functions have been most affected, and if your title changed, what did that look like for you?

I’ve heard a little about individuals moving into a different FoP but not much beyond that, so just trying to get a clearer picture from your perspective before the meeting on the 10th

ExxonMobil Considers Selling European Chemical Plants Amid Sector Pressures

Story by Fiona Craig

ExxonMobil (NYSE:XOM) is reportedly weighing the sale of its chemical production facilities in the United Kingdom and Belgium, as the European chemical industry faces mounting challenges from U.S. trade tariffs and competitive pressures from China, according to the Financial Times on Thursday.

Sources familiar with the matter told the publication that the U.S. energy company has initiated early talks with advisers in recent weeks about potential divestments, which could be valued at around $1 billion.

The move comes as European chemical manufacturers navigate a difficult market environment, contending with both American trade measures and increased competition from Chinese producers.

Major US & Israel HC Cuts... What about Asia and Low Cost GEOs?

We've all seen the headlines where there's thousands of US headcount being laid off, and some teams in Israel being impacted. But I haven't heard much if there are big HC cuts in China, India, Vietnam, Eastern Europe, Costa Rica, or other lower cost countries/GEOs? Anyone know if the HC cuts are also taking place elsewhere? Or is this the old sleight of hand trick where they fire 5K US employees... but hire back 3K in Asia/Low Cost GEOs?
