Uncertainty

People just want to be told what the plan is. The company should just quit with the management speak and tell everyone what the plan is. They want attrition right? Maybe admitting what the future looks like will help some people on the fence decide to leave.

Received a touchbase email for tomorrow.

Myself and a slew of members from my team. (But not all of them are from my team, and not all of my team was invited).

My assumption is either: "Changes are happening and you were not affected, but we're sorry", or "You were affected by these changes and here's the next steps."

Dell’s Uncertain Future: Executives Cash Out, Employees Burn Out

Over the past two years, Dell has fired more than 30,000 employees, with waves of layoffs continuing to hit the workforce. At the same time, top executives are frequently selling off their stock, raising concerns about confidence in the company’s direction.

Inside Dell, sweeping process changes are underway, but few employees know what the endgame looks like. The lack of transparency has created an atmosphere of fear and speculation, leaving morale at an all-time low.

Some employees are even speculating about the possibility of a voluntary separation program as an alternative to ongoing layoffs. While many doubt Dell will ever offer such an option, the fact that it’s widely hoped for underscores just how deep the uncertainty and anxiety run within the workforce.

Michael Dell himself has a reputation as a cut-throat businessman who prioritizes profits above all else. While that approach may appeal to investors in the short term, it raises questions about the company’s long-term stability and its commitment to its people.

As Dell continues to navigate this turbulent period, one thing is clear: uncertainty reigns, and the human cost is mounting.

VSPs not included in messaging ???

I took VSP and will be gone in ‘26 Understandably I’m far less important right now than everyone else who’s getting meetings or emails about their fate My heart goes out to all of you I’m wondering if / when VSPs will bear anything at all I want to be here for the people I work directly with each day and I’m hearing murmurs of impacts. But I’m at a complete standstill right know - I have heard crickets this week To spite everything around me being shifted - I haven’t had a meeting an email or anything And my work is at a complete stand still because I don’t know what’s happening with all of my peers - crickets

Useful info on layoffs

Indicator for your org is usually the all-hands, it is typically scheduled after lay-off rounds are complete. They are never truly complete though, but may be paused for 6 months, a year if you are lucky.

For instance, Chris' all-hands in Fusion is second week of October with universal agreement that firings will start on September 2nd, so they will go for 5 weeks.

Surgical robot maker to lay off up to 331

The company said it would encourage the affected employees to apply for open roles, which could lower the final layoff figure. The cuts are out of a total workforce of 15,638 employees as of last year.

How are you feeling?

Those who survived this round, are you feeling relieved? I'm not, at all. Number one, I still can't relax, even though I know it's over for now. And number two, since I know there'll be more down the line for sure, I don't feel any safer than I did yesterday. So not much of a change.

Job security is a joke

If you believe your role is untouchable, think again. There is always someone ready to take a position for less and the company will not hesitate. It is better to accept that nothing is guaranteed and plan accordingly instead of assuming you are safe. Disney is not the same company it once was.

I don't mind the wait

I understand why people are stressing, so am I. But if I had to choose between getting into work and learning I was laid off and having at least some warning to be able to prepare myself both mentally and in other ways, I'd chose the second option. Neither is good, but being blindsided with layoffs still seems worse to me.

Any idea how deeply tariffs might hit us?

It’s not just that our manufacturing could take a hit. Agriculture is already struggling, demand has been going down steadily, and purchasing power is clearly slipping. A lot of folks are holding off on buying or investing simply because there’s so much uncertainty. All of that is bound to affect us down the line. And that likely means more cuts, more layoffs, and more of us out there looking for work. It feels like we’re sliding into a vicious cycle, and I’m worried about what all that will mean for our jobs.

Renovations mean safe or “Go Forward Store”?

Does renovations like replacing bad carpet and other neglected parts of the store mean that the store is safe? I only ask this question even though it seems like an obvious answer because I’ve seen and heard reports or closure rumors of stores with these said renovations.

I mean financially it doesn’t make sense to me to put money into a store that you’re going to close anyway…
