Cognizant Rebadgers Off the Pepsi Account

And so it begins! An untold number of rebadged Pepsi employees that have trained our replacements have gotten an email that our last day on the Pepsi account is 12/31. We have been moved into the "Customer Deployable Pool." We have 8 weeks in which to find other positions within other Cognizant accounts else we are no longer employed.

@3hle - the list is good, let's agree that the US should be happy to grant work visas to the IIT graduate. However, the fact is, 90% of Indian immigration right now is routed through the #H1B channel and onboarded here to replace $100K/yr-good-benefits US workers with $60K/yr-miserable-benefits jr eng folk with, at best, questionable degrees. Again, as a hiring manager, i'd likely (an emphasis on likely) take an IIT graduate in a snap, but I almost never see them in my resume bin.

The fact is, you have top schools in every country - that's the kind of immigration we need - I do understand that Infy needs to make money somehow, however, playing the #H1B system should not be their main revenue driver.

52% of S&P 500 profits are generated overseas. OK, lets play hardball with our trade partners, have fun and watch that 401K melt down...

Oh, on #H1B - I have no problem with it - just open it up to everyone globally and pay the market price - India cannot hog 80% of the allocation pool and pay peanut wages - f--- that, bring in $200K+ PhDs from Heidelberg and Tel Aviv, not fake degree 60K testers.

And, yes, dont forget to auction to the highest bidder every single visa allocation...

This affects only IT, that's 1% of the total workforce. Go talk to Wal-Mart folks, 2 million employees - that's something that can move the needle... How many of you are really affected with #H1B stuff?

Sick and tired of Cognizant's #H1B scam

Seriously, the whole game is rigged, they bring in H1Bs, pay them peanuts and let knowledgeable workers go. I wander if it's possible to get Indian citizenship, so I can go on H1B and keep my job. The whole game is rigged, Pepsi knows it, Cognizant designed it and the politicians are supporting it because they are paid off by IBMs, Accentures and Cognizants of the world. Seriously, this is such a scam it's incredible that nobody is paying attention to this. It's not even discussed during the debates. Who will stop this scam and how?

I partially agree with the OP. I'm becoming more sympathetic to unions, but I still don't think they're a panacea, as the union bosses are just as susceptible to greed as CEOs and will just become your new overlords. However, sometimes the pendulum needs to swing all the way to the other side to effect any changes, and a union for tech workers may be what's required.

The root cause of a lot of these problems is not capitalism but "crony capitalism," where the government protects certain businesses and business practices. There's no better example than the various guest worker visa programs (e.g. #H1B, L-1, OPT, etc.) which are being used to both REPLACE American workers and hire guest workers INSTEAD OF American workers.

With 94 million Americans out of the workforce, someone in Congress needs to have the rocks to submit a very simple bill:

"All guest worker visa acts are hereby repealed."

and wait until the REAL unemployment rate gets to "full employment" before re-introducing future guest worker programs.

Disrespect

I think the worst of it is the disrespect, bring treated as if we are so stupid we won't notice that they contradict themselves. I'd have more respect for her if she just admitted they messed up and told us what the mywork fiasco was really all about because it doesn't make sense.

It was initially part of bofa 's green initiative because Charlotte is so polluted, they needed to get commuters off the road. It was also part of work/ life balance and attracting good talent. And let's not forget, the savings from no longer having to lease office space.

So, what changed? It's not about having people collaborate, because they are separating everyone out through their torturous fake automation processes and teams, and workers are still spread across the US and across the globe.

So how does this fit in with new bofa... It certainly is more expensive to have employees in the office.. unless the ultimate goal is to eventually outsource and automate everyone's job. Get everyone in, document what they do, have them train and automate their #h1b replacements.

Employees are no longer valued assets. The race to the bottom has begun.

i hope this guy's code is guarding hillary's medical records.

best comment i've read all day. russian mob loves it some #h1b visa code!

All #H1B, right?

Aug 2016 - Phoenix

Another round of big layoffs. Lots of departments going to India. Train your Indian replacement first!

Tech is good, not easy but good. You grt comfortable after 10 years, cruise, good money and benefits, RSUs, etc. One day an LR comes and your world crumbles. Its hard to start over and be a yr 1 b--ch again...

Med school, its a safety for life, but if they open that up on #H1B (like they did with tech and Pharmacists) you are basically screwed...

My 2 c, do what you love and kick butt, money will follow

"USA is a net global exporter of goods and services. What would happen if China, India, Malaysia and other emerging markets close their borders to US imports."

Not much call for economics classes down in Hyderabad, eh, mate? The US hasn't had an overall trade surplus in over 30 years:

http://www.tradingeconomics.com/united-states/balance-of-trade

And the US has had a trade deficit with each of the countries you listed since at least 1985:

https://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/index.html

PS: Just fixed another bug in some #H1B import code, bro! Long live the H-1B visa!

I have nothing against globalization or outsourcing. I have an issue with the #H1B abuse that's taking place everyday and EY is contributing here. The H1B program was designed to bring in the best and brighest of the world the the States. However, all people that we bring are low level engineers and analysts, often paid around 60K for a job that a US based resource would be paid about 100K. This depresses wages for folks in that 100K tier, no wander that wages in IT are stagnant - we allow an unlimited supply of indentured servants who will toil for 60% of the regular wage up to 5 years as they are hoping that their green card will be granted at the end of the period.

This gaming of the system was invented by the Indian pureplayers but it was wholeheartedly embraced by EYs and Accentures of the world - now it's a race who will bring in more H1B resources as that enables them to improve margins (charge as you were deploying a 100K resource but plug in an H1B guy for 60% of the cost).

We need to fix this and we need to continue to support globalization as well.

yes, graduates from American schools on F-1 visa that are now moving to OPT for 36 months and then can go to #H1B. have you gone on a recruiting trip to any US comp sci dept recently? large numbers of foreign students. plenty of public universities recruiting abroad so they can exploit foreign students to get out of state tuition at the expense of native students. Hillary is promising staple a green card legislation for foreign students who graduate with masters or higher. the native STEM talent shortage is a myth.

Everyone is playing the system, the Indian pure-players have perfected it, IBMs and Accentures of the world are right behind - Oracle is doing it (a LOT) but we are not an #H1B key player at all

You can check out the stats here: http://h1bdata.info/index.php?em=ORACLE&job=&city=&year=All

A quick look will return 25K applications for Accenture and 4K for Oracle...

"You mean like the ones I heard from an Indian #H1B member of the Religion of Peace"

If you are not spilling the beans, you are just stirring bs. You might very well have heard something awful, and rather than hinting at, you should just man the f* up and say it.

And in the case that it is true, what did you gain by making references to H1B and "Religion of Peace".

You can report bigoted remarks without falling into generalizations and bigotry. Just so you know.

@1wcin: "Not-so-veiled hints about the Jews" You mean like the ones I heard from an Indian #H1B member of the Religion of Peace when he thought no one could hear him outside an 899 conference room?

H1B Visas in Pharmacies

It looks like the #H1B scam is about to kill our profession as well

12,000 approx job openings annually

3,000 taken by technicians (1% of 300,000) based on certification from the Pharmacy Technician Accreditation Commission

5,000 taken by PGY1/2

1,000 taken by foreign trained, #H1B Visa holders

CTXS loves it some h1b

CTXS hires 123 #H1B in Q1 after massive layoffs: http://h1bdata.info/index.php?em=CITRIX+SYSTEMS+INC&job=&city=&year=2016

couldnt find room for 123 of the hundreds of laid off employees?

The #H1B issue is not to be ignored. I think that it had a minimal impact on Intel's problems, nonetheless, the program that started ~10 years ago has been accelerating recently and is changing the landscape of the technology industry... The change comes from multiple angles and racial / cultural is only one aspect here, certainly less important than the impact on wages and job availability it results in.

Someone noted this, I believe it pretty much sums up the problem:

Intel like many other US companies is a h1b sweatshop. It exploits the foreigners by creating a labor force of indentured servants without a voice and It exploits the citizens by driving wages down.

Racism at Verizon? Say it isn't so!

Offshoring jobs at Verizon? I can't believe what I'm hearing?

Replacing onshore skilled resources with #H1B Visa people just to save $$$!?! No way, that is illegal!!

But it's pretty evident Verizon is guilty as charged.

Tagging it

Racism in IT

Now that the strike is over IT can go back to being massively racist. Shankar and his almost all Indian male direct reports and their Indian male reports can finish the ethnic cleansing that started when he became CIO. The only qualifications you need to become a director now is to be Indian, male and worked on the wireline side. Within 2 years there will only be Indians left at the current rate. Wanting to do the job the right way is no longer a good thing.

H1B abuse that is rampant in tech industry.

The company is hoping that no one would apply for the position that they have posted, and if someone does, they will find a way to declare him/her unqualified.

These ads are part of the "labor certification" process to obtain an #H1B visa (work visa) for a foreign worker that they have already decided to hire for the position .

U.S. immigration authorities require companies to place such ads and demonstrate that the company "could not find a U.S. worker who could do the job", and therefore justify the need to hire a foreign worker for the position.

That is why the company hopes that nobody would apply and if someone does, the find a reason to disqualify him/her.

This is an abuse that is rampant in tech industry. They bring in cheap foreign workers to the U.S to replace U.S. workers.

Sara Blackwell (http://Theblackwellfirm.com ) is in the forefront of fighting against (1) H1B Visa abuse and (2) Companies shipping jobs overseas.

Part of what she is doing involves the EEOC ( https://www.eeoc.gov ).

Call her and she will provide you with information. She spent a good 20 minutes with me going over what she is doing and my options with IBM. Her dealings are not specific to IBM, but to the plight of of ALL Americans whose jobs are being taken away.

There is no guarantee of anything coming out of this, but she is drawing attention to our plight.

Check her out on youtube. Here she is on FOX Business - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reX04kc9bvI

Good luck to us all.

RNC DNC

The GOP supports an anything-goes #h1b free for all as much as the DNC, even more so. It's all one group of millionaires taking good care of the billionaires who keep them in office.

The only difference between the parties is that the GOP wears the "pro-billionaire: evil is ok in my book" logo on their sport coats as a badge of pride. The DNC hides it on a t-shirt under their button downs.

Charlotte BAC and H1B

Companies in Charlotte are stepping up their efforts to hire foreign workers – especially for information technology jobs – under a federal visa program that’s becoming a political flashpoint.

The H-1B visa lets companies bring foreign workers to the U.S. temporarily, to fill jobs requiring highly skilled labor. Employers say it helps them fill jobs that draw too few qualified applicants. Critics say some companies abuse it, replacing Americans with foreign tech workers willing to work for less.

Sometimes American IT workers are laid off after spending their final days training their foreign-born replacements.

Demand for these visa workers is growing especially fast in Charlotte. Last year hundreds of employers filed initial applications for more than 16,500 H-1B workers in the Charlotte metro area, many in technology positions. That number alone is bigger than the entire workforce of some of Charlotte’s largest employers.

Supporters of the visas, including local job recruiters, point to a shortage of skilled technology talent that is resulting in thousands of open computing jobs throughout the state. A lack of computer science majors graduating adds to the problem, officials say.

But in some instances, “companies that are bringing in H-1B people at the same time are having staff reductions in the same area – generally speaking, the IT area,” said Bill Chu, a professor at UNC Charlotte’s College of Computing and Informatics. “There are lots of H-1B people in Charlotte.”

A major source of H-1B workers is India, where experts say technology is a popular field of study and young, English-speaking workers are willing to move abroad for work. According to the federal government, 70 percent of H-1B visas granted in 2014 were designated for someone born in India.

Employers use the visas in different ways. Sometimes they bring a foreign worker with a specialized skill directly onto their staff. Other times, employers lay off Americans, then outsource work to firms that employ large numbers of #H1B workers.

In the Charlotte metro area, nine of the 10 employers who filed the most initial applications for visa workers last year were outsourcing firms, according to an Observer analysis of federal data. The exception was Charlotte-based Bank of America. The bank filed applications for about 380 visa workers, ranking it ninth. Statewide, employers filed applications for more than 33,400 visa workers last year.

Only a portion of such applications are approved each year by the federal government. Employers who received approvals can then enter a lottery held annually in recent years because of high demand. Last year, about one in three applications seeking 85,000 available visas nationwide won the lottery.

Federal data shows companies’ visa applications for Charlotte positions were up 39 percent last year from the year before – surpassing the roughly 25 percent increase nationwide.

In Charlotte, employers’ reliance on visa workers has some on edge about their own job security.

“It is a real concern,” said one Bank of America technology employee who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal. Other banks, including Wells Fargo, have also filed applications for people on visas to work in Charlotte.

@4bwp +1 for Sarah Blackwell - she was the one that took Disney to court (re #H1B abuse)

Oh, yet another #H1B rant, what can I tell you, getting rid of that visa would solve all our problems.

The whole country exploits #H1B folks, what's new?

For decades Jerry Young has been growing business shamelessly on the back of young H1B workers straight out of college. These foreigners are deliberately worked like slaves to the point of exhaustion and breakdown, on the threat of loosing their jobs and their residency. He has created a culture that utterly resembles a nuclear winter. If the Exxon's and BP's of the industry seriously knew what was going on here, they would be ashamed to be associated with this disgrace. You can talk to anyone that works here, there are many posts on glassdoor too about this behavior. It is no secret. It is unethical. It is un-American. It has been condoned by useless management for years. Jerry needs to go !
