Mental torture

That is exactly what this feels like. They are letting us wait this long, making us stress, worry, and think about our livelihoods potentially disappearing next week every hour of every day. Why would they prolong it like this? Can anyone give me a real reason besides simply wanting to torture us?

We still don’t know who’s likely to be hit?

Any rumors at all? I seriously doubt they’ll limit it to just redundancies. I expect they’ll go after experienced, skilled veterans too, because that’s what everyone does. Knowing your job often comes at a cost. I’ve yet to see layoffs, here or anywhere else, done strategically. It’s always crude, led by numbers, never real planning.

I’ll go nuts before this is over

I don’t care about the job itself, I just badly need it. I’m in a tough spot in life right now and can’t afford to lose this job. I know I’m not the only one, but I’ve got so much on my plate that the possibility of being laid off absolutely terrifies me. Fingers crossed for all of us, especially those in particularly precarious positions.

WTF is my performance plan? Have they forgot or don't care.

I am still waiting for my dpc plan. I asked again and was told they were working on it. Everyone else is doing theirs now and are 2 weeks into it. Either exxon doesn't care or they are letting me fail purposely. I would like to see what the he-l they want me to do. I really want to improve my performance and be a more valuable employee to the company NOT. I just to get this s heet over with and see what torture they have planned for me. Is anyone else still waiting?

Anyone else with insomnia, thinking about the future all night?

Laid off after 22 years, and I can’t sleep. I worry about the immediate future and my job prospects as all the companies that would hire me are going into lean mode. I’m also suffering existentially, thinking about AI and what the job market looks like for anyone a decade from now. What’s everyone else doing to prepare? It feels like savings and emergency funds won’t be enough at some point. For the first time in my life my future is foggy along with everyone else’s. I’m having trouble coping and I keep doomscrolling this forum, and I know it’s not healthy, but I don’t know what else to look at for comfort.

Please seek help if needed

There are some people not doing so well since being laid off. Seriously not doing well. Please seek help.

Feeling anxious and depressed, having trouble sleeping, not being able to enjoy activities that you are used to enjoying are all normal feelings that you may experience after a layoff.

If these feeling persist over time it may be useful to be assessed by a doctor and/or mental health professional. Layoffs can put a lot of emotional stress on relationships and it may be useful to consult with a mental health professional about this as well.

Today Was a Bad Day

Today we watched over 200 years of experience walk out the door as our AP teams in the United States worked their last day. Everything being shipped across the pond to Manila. Don't get me wrong I have no issue with the folks in the Philippines but we lost a huge amount of experience and talent today. I've been feeling it for months already during the "training period." Yeah, the folks in the States had to stay long enough to train their replacements or they wouldn't receive their severance package. It makes me absolutely HATE the organization I work for when I see good folks who did nothing wrong get me to go in the interest of saving a buck. I'm sure I will be on the list soon enough. A this point it may actually be a relief. GPN can find a big fat di--o and stick it straight up, their candy a-s!

People, calm down

No numbers were stated. People are pulling stuff from a while ago and trying to pass it as news. Ignore the 7k rumor. Don't do that to yourself. Yes, we know cuts are coming. But that's about all we know for now. Until we know more, try not to lose too much sleep over people speculating.

How to cope with layoff anxiety – medical or psychological or cognitive coping strategies?

It seems that every this or that group at #Oracle gets axed – at this point, all of this has started to affect my health, my #anxiety levels are through the roof. Seriously, I try to avoid thinking about layoffs, try to avoid discussing it with #Oracle folks or family, I even stay off this site. Lately,

I am having quite a bit of trouble sleeping without interruption, my blood pressure is consistently high, I am easily distracted.

How do you guys deal with things like this – do you have any #gold strategy that works for you… Any pearls of wisdom that you may be able to share?
