IBM Security layoffs today

The IBM Security in Atlanta was hit hard today in Engineering. Software developers, document writers, quality assurance, DevOps affected. Last day is May 4th.

It’s True

I was told that sufficient resources outside the USA were available to take on the work I had performed so my services were no longer needed.

IBM Layoffs today

RIF is company wide and roles include engineering. Not sure how many yet, but folks in IBM Automation were affected. Turmoil started in January, so it will not come as a surprise to many.

Reason for your layoff

I feel bad for everyone impacted. I hope you will find something better soon. What explanation were you given for your layoff?

Confirmed layoffs on 4/4 in US

I know of several people that have gotten the dreaded calendar invite for tomorrow 4/4 where they will all be told on a group call that they are being laid off (so cold). Not sure full scope but seems huge within Talent Acquisition. Know many people... — read more

Outdated thinking

Our performance is taking a hit because our management philosophy is outdated and doesn't seem to be able to handle even basic problems. This old way of thinking and doing things is holding us back and causing IBM to struggle. We need to shake things... — read more

Retired

I just retired from IBM March 31. I had a young person on my team at IBM ask me for all my contacts at IBM over the years and any assets I developed prior to me leaving. No goodbye, good luck but instead just give me give me. In addition, my manager... — read more

Will there be more major layoffs this year?

Most restructurings happen in the spring so the costs of the restructuring can be recouped in the current year. IF IBM is going to make a major move, I would expect they will account for it at 1st q earnings, and implement over the remainder of... — read more

Threatened and harassed

I was threatened and harassed on my exit of IBM, and my personal phone searched by CIO. This seemed not right and I heard a lawsuit was being opened against IBM and the CIO, specifically NN (actual name withheld). Does anyone have information about... — read more

Cutting the dividend

The current revenue could support the current headcount just fine if the company wasn't slavishly devoted to maintaining and increasing the dividend. Cut the dividend and maybe you could fund real product development again, rather than just buying... — read more

Retiring email

Is it considered a good practice to send a farewell email to a list of IBM colleagues. I am retiring soon. There were some people I really will miss.

I'm a 56-year-old laid-off IT worker looking for a job. I have a hunch I'm not having luck due to ageism. How do I prove it?

Grass is greener on other side

If you work for IBM and are not ready to retire, you should start looking for jobs while still employed. You will not receive decent raises unless the company starts making money. I was laid off during Covid in June 2020. It was the best thing IBM... — read more

Raises

Looks like 2% budget this year for raises. IBM’s workday shows market movement is around 4% average for engineer job roles. I know folks are expecting even higher to combat the 15% inflation. Looks like IBM could be claiming the competitions layoffs... — read more
