Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Preemptive signal of a Dec. RA in the US !?!?!

HR just sent a memo that the payment date made in 2024 for 2023 US GDP performance is being moved from Mar 15 to Apr 8 under the guise to give Mgrs. more planning time ... haha, yeah right :) Since Checkpoint Reflections typically close out in Jan., you don't really need another 3 weeks to distribute the $budget they give you, but they can save paying out to people gone by Mar 31!!! Is it the offshore HR folks or the AI tools that haven't mastered transparency yet? Maybe they just quit giving a $h#t.

This assumes that GDP will even be paid. It depends on rev and margin growth.

Also placing people on PIPs, which essentially is the of your career at IBM. People placed on PIPs end up trying to find a job outside of IBM.

They are robbing Peter to pay Paul. No new spend, cutting fall budgets for the remainder of the year. They are quietly laying off instead of one mass to avoid WARN, (in my opinion). Rumored Howard Boville was pushed out, maybe, but as they always say there is some truth to rumors. Big Blue is sinking.....

It's also, with all companies I've worked for, a fu---d up, long delayed, long drawn out, retention strategy.

Eg your Q4 performance (and for Q1-Q4) you're lucky to get a raise or action until sometime Q2 and often (esp for bonuses) early Q3.

This equates to "If you want your prior year raise and/or bonus you (effectively) have to work through Q1 and nearly all of Q2 of the following year .

That su-ks! That is their plan!

It's for layoffs/RA's. I was RA'd April 6th 2023 (indeed I figured it would have been during CQ1 March) so that would fit with similar next year.
e.g. Finish 1st quarter then evaluate (you know your numbers so have some time) to then RA (before completed reviews but with input) then finish
reviewing whomever is left.

The timing of this email is extremely interesting. One, this is a way to motivate IBMers to push hard through FY23 so they can reap the benefits of this potential reward - so certainly a retention strategy. The other thing is that Fall Plan will be well under way soon, and if GDP payout is budgeted for in FY24, then will it come at a cost for other things that BUs and Functions want?
