Having IBM on resume is embarrassing. I don't know why people want to continue working for IBM?

I remember a computer science data structures class in college that I was enrolled in from a private university. Our last assignment was to apply what we learned to develop an email system. A class mate wanted to take my software I wrote to use. I refused him. He was from a rich nation like Saudi Arabia
CV's are now all about having key word's that the AI scans, NOTHING MORE
Diversity ki-led this cat long time ago. Just another Indian tech support company now. Thank you come again
Being part of the IBM community is something to be proud of, whether you are an employee or an alum. There are very few places where you can completely reinvent your career path, learn almost anything you want, and be accepted for just being you. Like ANY company, it has issues and problems, but here’s the thing I wish I learned this early on in my career: Go out and fix them - and inspire others to join you in the mission. This is certainly core to IBM’s ongoing relevance in the world.
While some roles at IBM are ridiculous and the amount of corporate waste that exists there can be ridiculous, it’s not a bad thing on your resume. Just remember to actually develop skills that you can use outside of IBM. It’s really easy to neuter your career and fade into obscurity in your respective role here. IBM won’t keep you around nowadays or up your pay much even if they push you in that direction. However, IBM is still a well known player in the tech space even as small, niche Blue.
I was never embarrassed. Look no company is perfect.
A few reasons to keep working at IBM:
- Salary nearly doubled during covid, without asking
- Work anywhere in the world
- Complete job flexibility, set my own hours
- Chance to work, and learn, on AI advancements.
- I'll think of a few more later...
I disagree.
Ex-long term IBMer (left during COVID) in GBS. Lots of things broken in Big Blue and lots of things need fixing BUT having IBM on your resume is no different than having CocaCola on your resume.
In every single company I interviewed with, I was asked about IBM (culture, people, processes, etc.) and even today I get asked a couple of times a month by people who want to know how IBM did it.
So, no. Having IBM on your resume is not embarrassing.
