Thread regarding IBM layoffs

This is the way

The managers get told who to let go and the HT drones and Legal provide a script on what to say. They can't grow a business so just keep dumping people and move the work to low wage countries.

Why are people still surprised by this? This has been IBM's modus operandi for the last decade. If you expect better, you won't get it here.

I am a RA’d manager, @3zkw is 💯 % correct. Long gone are the days when managers/executives made the selections, they are now given names based on criteria @3zkw highlighted from HR. When you land on a list your IBM days are over

All RAs are overseen (signed off) from CHQ rather than division. Although the affected employees still don't appreciate it, the process is much more impersonal than personal, if that makes sense. Employees who cost too much (compensation, pension plus insurance claims), have questionable PBC ratings, too much time in band, live or work in the wrong location, are "on the bench" (not busy), etc. are all candidates for "the list".

I can tell you firsthand the submitter is correct. My RA was signed off by leadership that did not oversee my department/division.

First line managers get told by whom? Who is the wizard behind the curtain calling the shots on what CNUM to get rid of?
