IBM-impacted employees will find out during the week of March 14 if they will be able to transition to IBM (offers made) or hit the road and lose their jobs #outsourcing #MakeAmericaGreatAgain #H1B

OK bro - US IBM employees... How many of them are legally working in the US but are of Indian origin and currently have an #H1B visa?? Take a peak at the government listings - thousands and thousands of H1Bs were brought in, they are on US payroll, but working for wages lower than the prevailing rate - that's how they make money - and good luck for Hertz folks transitioning to IBM they will be kept until they train Indians who will do the job for 1/10th of the price - here is your data http://h1bdata.info/index.php?em=IB&job=&city=&year=All
Going Forward
when the innovation is done through accounting practices and offshoring, the bright minds will find better places. the drain has been happening for a while, out with the high salaries/tenure and with the the #H1B and college grads.
many reasons, especially bring in new management who wants to consolidate power by bringing their friends or hiring new and make room by getting rid of whoever they need to
And #H1B folks
More outsourcing and job cuts
Will happen this year and next year, E&E 2020 and Follow the Sun initiatives. Expect 5% cuts this year in IT. More work will be sent to India for IT.
Another #H1B scam
Hertz lays off 250+ IT employees today (20-Feb-2016)
Today Hertz decided to layoff 250+ IT employees across the country. some of the jobs are being outsourced to IBM.
MSFT January 2016 Job Cuts
I was part of a group of thousands laid off January 2016. The entire Yammer group got the axe 1900+. My old position was filled by an #H1B
Executive Lesson #1: "Resource Actions" hurt IBM's performance and ki-l morale.
OK, keep cutting but FYI - our morale is at an all time low and the window to turn the ship around is rapidly closing... Do you gentlemen (and ladies) know that there is no opportunity for employees to move to another assignment, once they have been tagged in a Resource Action - WHY? If you are over 40, IBM does not want you - is this an #AgeDiscrimination.
Finally, our famous and celebrated (merit based) performance review system is a total lying farce designed by hypocrites. Employees do not get an honest and fact based evaluation of their performance.
We all know that our workloads can be extremely heavy requiring much overtime for extended time periods - yet we are not paid if we work extra (even if we bill clients for it) - #underpaid.
Pay raises??? Forget it, if you are over 40, forget it for sure...
We also mastered the fine art of importing cheap labor and indentured servant from India - when the dust settles it'll only be #H1B and Executive Line up left standing...
I am sick of this Ginny Rometty...
All of them abuse #h1b visas
All Contractors are under performed at One Shell and Two Shell Plaza and all these contractors are from Accenture,IBM and Wipro must be fired.
All these contractors if retained by Shell then there is 1000% chances of shutting down Shell Oil Business.
Also all under performers must be fired immediately without any notice.Shell Oil must be honest in its HR Policies and procedures while hiring contractors since these contractors do zero job but earn thousands in salary.
If #H1B is to hire the best and the brightest of the world, the threshold should be $200K not $110K which is peanuts in high cost areas (California, NYC, DC, etc.) - they will accomplish nothing on 110K
It's time for that #h1b scam to stop - seriously...
We do not have a #H1B problem, we have a Dell problem
Outsourcing by Deloitte - Optimus Support
Deloitte taking over the Optimus support!!! #Outsourcing and #H1B
#H1B Scam at Staples
There are a lot of employees working at Staples IT department from TCS Indian company. They should let them go and hire more people from here. Stop #H1B abuse
Why do we need #H1B program?
Well more reasons to stop the H1B program and replace it with a green card program. Trump will make America great again.
IBM gets worse every year
A 6 year veteran here - it's fairly long #tenure for IBM... No matter how highly you are rated at #IBM or how many years you work for IBM, please do not relax and think for one minute that your job may be secure.
A large number of my friends here at IBM were laid off, so they can move our work to #India, #Philippines and pay a fraction of our salaries to local staff.
When they lay you off you lose your matching #401K funds, they do that on purpose, that's why they are not matching every month...
Anyhow, no respect or value to employees is shown to employees... #IBM is sneaky they send more and more jobs offshore, they bring #H1B folks here - they do not release info on what's going on - they hide it...
Dont you start me on management, it sucks, managers are frustrated too - there layers upon layers of management, a ton of people will check your work, and stuff like that, they will tell yo what to do often contradicting each other - oh, it's so bad bro...
I do not think #H1B folks are our problem
It becomes filled with h1b1 workers and they talk about how great it is to be making $19/hr as long as they have a job title?
Another #H1B voices his opinion - please be silent
why software jobs are going to Indians ?
because they work hard for it. Just look at their schools. They get trained from middle school working 10-12 hours a day learning Math and English. They are surrounded by lot of software people. Eventually, they pick up and are good at it. Compare to our middle schools here where all girls worry about makeup and boys, while boys trying to act cool, ask the girls out. How can America win ?
All the pressure comes in high school and no wonder half the kids are on anti depressants.. America needs to raise standards and cut down their activities that are useless like soccer, Piano etc. Just focus on studies and then you can get the jobs. Identify the skill set early on but that is the biggest problem. >Which kid is good at what ? It might take fun out of life but if we can find the answer, that's the silver bullet..
Sorry if this makes anyone feel old, but 35 is indeed considered over-the-hill in the IT industry. Remember Mark Zuckerberg's (in)famous quote, "young people are just smarter." Norm Matloff discusses this in his excellent #H1B summary: http://heather.cs.ucdavis.edu/h1b10min.html

Another #h1b Rant
I am voting for Trump. He will stop the give-away of H1B visas to Indians. They are taking all out jobs. Corporations are outsourcing them
I am voting for Trump. He will stop the give-away of H1B visas to Indians. They are taking all our jobs.
Corporations like NOV are outsourcing & allowing these foreigners to take the jobs from our US citizens.
With so many U.S citizens out of work l, the constant layoffs, those laid off are replaced with foreigners with H1B visas.

#H1B Scumbags - just tagging it
Infosys and H1B abuse
http://www.epi.org/blog/new-data-infosys-tata-abuse-h-1b-program/
I am not wrong
You're absolutely wrong. A company pays around 20-30k per #H1B filed. Also H1Bs have the same salaries as US workers at least at MS where the salary for a given title is usually non-negotiable. H1Bs are actually more expensive than US workers and that's why many smaller companies don't hire H1Bs simply because they can't afford the cost.
Things about to go south in 2016 - Layoffs are coming
ServiceNow grew too big too fast, things are out of control right now and we #overhired - #H1B issue remains things will get worse before it gets better - look at the stock price performance and where is growth there - we have issues on the pricing side and competition is catching up with us - layoffs in 2016 for sure
Austin Layoffs 2016
You will see over 50 people let go in Austin - 2016 is not a good year so far, this is mostly on the IT side and it's a huge bummer - they keep shipping more jobs offshore and #H1B is the problem as many people with H1B visas take jobs that Americans are losing, it's not fair for us here in the States
so true on #h1b
Verizon's only "core" is to make the top execs wealthy .... and to give jobs to offshore and H1B morons. But the latter is just to help achieve making the execs wealthy. Cause we all know how piss-poor the offshore and H1B resources are.
I am sick and tired of the #H1B rant - you guys said nothing as both Dems and Republicans were destroying US Manufacturing a couple of decades ago.
True, this really isn't about H1Bs. Those people just want to work. It really is just about capitalism, aka greed, and the US stands head and shoulders above the rest of the world when it comes to greed. It really is just the insatiable greed of Wall Steet. And what is Wall Street? Just a much larger version of each of us. Everyone wants that big fat 401k, who cares about a bunch of Chinese people working miserably long hours? Labor is the biggest cost for business in this country, AND the easiest and most affective way to cut costs. As unpleasant as it is, people here are paid way way more than either China or India. It's not my opinion, everyone of us know it's true. The human misery many of us, including me, is not going away any time soon. And IS a direct result of paying ourselves " the big bucks" decade after decade after decade. No I'm not a troll nor a vz HR plant. Just someone who knows that Wall Street is the child of the American people's need, the need for greed. It's karma, we are getting what we made for ourselves, and those Indian & Chinese people have come for your job and your future. They too will, just like the Japanese before them, will "win the peace." Of course we can always resolve the problem the good oi' American way and shoot, stab, gas or bomb the bastards? Sorry, but this is not my opinion, it's the simple plain but sad truth.
OK - great, good for our. Wait until the #H1B cohort gains more strength, you will see what happens.
@2ypx: Read @2nyb 's post again -- he said it exempts employers not employees from certain taxes (in the US, both employers and employees pay a portion of various payroll taxes). I don't know how much this applies to #H1B, but it certainly applies to #OPT, for which Obama's DHS is about to triple the visa duration, so Zuckerberg et al. can bypass the annual H-1B caps.
Yes, but...
Yes, they are a great employer if you are not a salaried employee, in which case you are subject to the forced ranking system and mass layoffs every 3-4 years of experienced and dedicated employees. The only people that would see Cummins as a decent employer would be the thousands of #H1B Visa workers from Indiana and China that work there and become a larger and larger part of the Columbus workforce as Americans undergo the regular "purges".
An H1B Worker Here
How about a market mechanism that would determine once and for all not only who is right, but that would determine what the market-clearing price for skilled immigrant labor actually is, informing future immigration policy formation?
Right now, #H1B visas are issued on a first come, first served basis, for a flat fee, and the number is arbitrarily capped. Such a system tells us nothing about how much an H1B visa (and thus a skilled immigrant worker) is actually worth to an employer. And because the number is capped and the fee low, the system actually encourages a lottery or jackpot approach—in other words, employers would apply for as many visas as possible, hoping to get enough. This is an irrational system.
It would make much more sense to allocate H1B visas via an auction process. If H1B visas were auctioned to employers each year in a sealed bid process, with the bids allocated from highest to lowest until the available permits were exhausted, supply and demand would establish the market-clearing price for the right to hire a skilled immigrant worker. Because of the likely higher fees resulting from the auction mechanism, employers would have no incentive to hire an immigrant worker if an equivalent #AmericanWorker were available, which would lead to more accurately determining areas where shortages of American workers actually exist.
Disney is the worst of them all - they have a corp office in Orlando, very close to the park, it's on Celebration way - it's like an IT factory, they've built it recently. The carnage is taking place there, not in the park. They are working with a ton of outsourcing companies and laying people off. So for example, they would work with Accenture, and let's say you work for 50 bucks/hr - Accenture tells them, hey I will replace that guy for 30 bucks/hr. But the issue is they cannot find anyone who will do it for 30, so they go to Accenture India and they bring someone from there to work on-shore in Orlando here. So, accenture pays the guy 20 bucks and they pocket 10. The guy is totally underpaid in US terms, but in Indian terms he just doubled his salary.
So you have armies of folks like that who come through Infosys, TATA, Accenture, Deloitte, it's the same concept - the consulting companies have relationships in IT departments, they walk around and look what parts of business they can take, and they pitch low cost resources - it works most of time.
This has nothing to do with 'best and brightest" concept that #H1B was to cover - this is pure labor arbitrage where the outsourcing companies are making a ton of money by f---ing American workers.
All management at the target company knows about this, they are part of this scam as well.
Finally, here is the kicker - the visa application process is expensive and cumbersome (I think it's over 1000 bucks to apply). Also, if you apply you have about 10% chance of being accepted. So, what Infosys (and other) does is compensating the cost - so they will make let's say 10,000 applications, they pay ten million for that but they will manage to get only 1,000 people a visa - it's still good for them as they make 30K per resource a year, the average tenure on a contract is three years. So on each person they make 90K in three years, so on 10 million invested, they get 90 million in outsourcing revenue - this stuff is pure margin for them (let's say 80% margin as overhead is minimal).
So, if you look at the stats with TATA, Infosys, WIPRO, etc. bring in 3K every year, there is ton of money in this game - this is HIGHLY profitable for them, as contracts are long term and they go so deep in that the client have very difficult time getting rid of the folks who get hired.
I hope this helps...
I do not think anybody is covering this thoroughly - there some right wing nutcases who focus on this, but as it relates to serious reporting, I think #H1B is not covered properly by the mainstream media
Americans getting replaced by H1b workers - please do the following to raise public awareness of this issue.
American workers getting replaced by H1bs brought in by contracting firms
Those of you who want to raise awareness of the public just like the Disney folks and the Edison folks did about replacing American workers at your companies by H1bs. I would suggest you to please google and see which journalists have written on H1bs replacing Americans. There are lots of them writing about that and they are always looking for new stories. Please find their email address and write to them to educate the public and the Govt and stop this abuse.
Confidentiality will be maintained if you request the journalists to do it.
I do not think we have a big #H1B problem, our issues are mostly based on #outsourcing work #offshore
IEEE - trying to get DOJ to intervene on workers displaced by H1b
http://www.computerworld.com/article/3019885/it-careers/ieee-usa-urging-displaced-workers-to-file-complaints.html
Action NEEDED by DISPLACED workers.
Please read the article above and sign the petition so that the DOJ can start looking into this. They need 100 signatures , please act. no action no result.....nothing changes unless we the workers act.
Very cool - you are happy at your new job and the #H1B guy is happy in your old position
Not really, I know some #H1B folks who were cut
Layoff Demographics in US
Anyone have a breakdown of the number of #H1B included in yesterday's layoff at the various US campuses?
