Just Interviewed at Honeywell...

So I just Interviewed at Honeywell, seemed like a great place to be.

But this site terrified me.

I recently graduated and have had a hard time finding a job. I was pretty excited to finally get and opportunity to interview.

I need a job, if I get an offer should I take it?

It is within the aerospace group.

The End of the Road - Quitting Sam's Club: My Advice to Those Who Want to be Team Leaders and Move Up

Yeah, right. #GOLD post. Thanks, OP

Can't wrap my head around as to why people want to see others lose their job. Yeah Intel has manufacturing issues but it's doing just fine with 14nm. Really high revenue and for all those doomsday folks, it won't go down to half of its revenue in 2 years. As long as x86 rules the software industry, Intel will be safe and that is not gonna be replaced by anything else anytime soon.

All companies falter now and then. Intel will be back on track.

Gen Y and Gen Zs are on the right track of being entrepreneurs instead of working for a company. This mess is a prime example of why you own your destiny. Stressing month over month will you have a job, having to accept what the elite say you can have. Now 20, 30 years later it hits you like a brick, that with all the Trump tax cuts, greed stll rules the day!! Salute your kids who attempt start-ups...they will win in the long run. Stop being stupidly loyal to VZ, see this giant as is.... GREEDY!! and YOU will never matter!!

Thanks, @VkDmMQg your post is pure #GOLD

Hoping you get laid off! (An Encouraging message)

All,

As an ex TR employee, I have been through what you are going through. I want to encourage you. It was horrible to get laid off, but now i am glad. TR FR is a sinking ship, full of with mismanagement, in a low growth space. I ended up way better off, and you will too!

You should not be so worried about the future. This c-appy company (and there is blame to around) put you in this position.

The chances are you will end up in a more stable place, where you are more valued, better paid, and happier. It might take a few months, but stop worrying. I have been there, and it certainty happened to me. I work at a company where we are not treated like an expense and where there is growth. I did change jobs a few times after TR, but i am happier better paid, learning more, etc. Leaving TR (getting laid off) was really good in retrospect.

My advice is- if you get a package, take that generous money and leave happily. Look at it as a gift- being paid to leave the titanic. Think about the stress you will be leaving (the uncertainty), not the uncertainty of leaving c-appy TR.

And do not, under any circumstance grt depressed about it.

My next post is going to be on what you need to do, attitude wise, for you your next job. TR is purgatory- where you get hired wont be, and you cant bring the same attitude.

Until then atay positive, and hope for a package. It will be worth it!

Kudos, OP, your post is true #GOLD

They are constantly worried about everything that we are. Same complaints on upper management,

Union gripes (seniority and the like). Many of their abbreviated acronyms are different but mean the same, we call them mass surplusses but they will use RIFs (Reduced in Force) and not too strangely, many of the same Trolls travel back and forth between sites using the same exact Thread or Reply in sentences verbatim.

They gripe of the inferior products they sell, bthe services they provide their customers and how “the other departments” don’t do their jobs and force the workload back on them! On VZ Layoffs, just on Sunday they are showing the anxiety of job discrimination, the Rule of 75, severance packages &

Pension concerns.

I wonder what I would see if I looked under the “hood” of all the other competitors layoff sites. My point is, it’s not always greener somewhere else. If we get surplussed along the way, don’t expect that you will leave the old grievances behind....those of us that survive, maybe we count our blessings.

If you don’t believe me, take a stroll over to VZ Layoffs for a few days and see what I mean

Improvement Suggestion

Here is my suggestion on how to improve this site - It'd be good that when any topic has a reply it is bumped to the top of the list? It would save looking up and down to check what discussions had the latest replies. It would save a ton of time and it would make your site more usable. I am not sure if admins are reading these messages, but if you do please consider my proposal.

Not feeling better

I thought once layoffs are done I'll feel better, but somehow things are even worse now. With so many people gone, I suddenly feel like an intruder when I get to work. Now I'm dreading going to the office even more than I did before.

I guess I really need to start looking for a new job.

Demographics

Anybody feels like AT&T is being destroyed by a bunch of millennials with no experience and very little knowledge?

I'm not saying they are all the same, but this seems to be the demographic that is taking over the company, and I don't see it working out in any way, shape or form.

Anybody else thinks we need some of those older employees back to get us out of this situation?

So true

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Honestly I think this is the best post I've saw on this board in many months. It's probably because it precisely articulated everything I had to say about the topic. In short, when it comes to loyalty we (boomers) learned a bitter lesson and that got reflected in how we raised our kids (I raised two millennials). If IBM plans to continue to behave the same way, they will have very difficult time retaining millenials as they grew up watching us struggle with RAs, deterioration of benefits, etc. Anyhow, @2pph you created a true #gold post indeed...

After reading over this Docket I thought I'd share my thoughts. Millennials are a great group of smart individuals and they're our future. As a tail-end Baby Boomer I know because we're the proud parents of three of them. We raised them to be SMART, THINK for themselves and be loyal to yourself, your family and immediate friends. We also raised them to "build your career" in a direction that provides the right work-life balance and compensation to experience all the things you want out of life ... and, based on our experience, we've conveyed "you should always be looking for your next job and your next work challenge" ... which will generally be had at another company. IBM may be targeting to hire Millennials however their biggest challenge (aside from this and other age-based lawsuits to come) will be retaining them and keeping them engaged. Again, I know because we've raised three of them. BTW all three of our Millennials are in IT and do not work at ... or plan to work at IBM.

A good #gold post by @1zjn

In the feverish minds of the freshly minted MBA's we are all interchangeable parts. To think otherwise would severely limit their options as they "redesign" IBM. Hopefully, IBM's competitors will scoop up the people with product and industry knowledge and use that skill to Rip and Replace the IBM solutions.

#Gold question indeed

Why no hiring freeze?

My question is why was US HEd not on a hiring freeze the last 12 months? People that were hired last fall, moved their families to their territories out of state, were laid off yesterday.

What's going on at State Farm?

Can somebody here please give me a succinct explanation of what's happening at State Farm right now? All I know is my mom is completely stressed out all the time, but she keeps claiming nothing is wrong at work.

I've been through posts here, but they are all over the place and I can't put together a complete picture. Can somebody help me out, please?

@SsW6TpM-2yjh, thank you. True #GOLD post

You may be waiting for your package and monetarily that looks like the best option for now. But once you are laid off, you will be going to other companies to interview and you will have to explain something about your layoff.

People who are laid off do not make a great impression at interviews.

Consider taking control of your life, updating your skills and your resume and proactively looking for another job. You will appear to be the smart person who realizes you are working for a failing company and is doing the right thing for your career.

Getting laid off and rejected by a failing company is not a great thing to discuss at your next interview.

#Gold Post Indeed...

If you were to magically become CEO tomorrow what would you attempt to change keeping in mind current pressing issues?

Sup guys, so I was procrastinating instead of working per usual and my mind wandered off to what I would do if by some miracle I would become president/CEO tomorrow, like what type of rule I would instill what kind of culture I would form especially in the light of current problems we're facing.

I know of course that stuff like this doesn't magically happen over night but in a what if scenario where you had the power to change things internally what would you do?

Good post OP. I turned this into a generic list titled "16 Steps to Prepare for Layoffs" so other companies can use it as well. I'll flag it as #GOLD and #RESOURCE

  1. What are the severance package details?

  2. Can I use personal holidays until I'm gone?

  3. What’s the policy about retirement and health plans during the last days at the company?

  4. Am I being let go with cause?

  5. Can I retire instead of being let go?

  6. Can I collect unemployment?

  7. Will I get my outstanding bonus (commissions if in sales)?

  8. What happens I chose not to sign agreement?

  9. Can I extend the time before I go another for x number of months (e.g., due to personal hardship)?

  10. Prepare and send goodbye email to colleagues.

  11. Check for Class Actions and/or prepare to file EEOC age discrimination suit?

  12. Post on thelayoff.com

  13. Save any HR related forms you can find

  14. Plan your reaction in case you are notified

  15. Keep your shoulders back and your chin high

  16. Go home to your family and begin again.

Major Issues with Qualcomm

Qualcomm San Diego employees have an overbearing attitude towards employees of other regions. Their attitude and behaviour is driven more by nervousness and fear of losing jobs.

Qualcomm culture is getting bad.

Should I report this to HR?

What should I do?

My manager plays a lot of #politics with the team and plays the divide and rule card perfectly.

The team's morale is low and many in the team are of the opinion that the manager favors some and plays politics.

I joined this team right after college, was promoted 4 yrs ago and was told to keep continuing the hard work.

#Motivated, I worked even harder to prove my worth but my manager's politics interfered a lot.

At times I even disagreed with the tactics and soon figured out I wasn't among favorites.

Needless to say, my ratings are mediocre at best now, a #browniepoint here or there, a #gold star and a #participationtrophy.

The reasons I get is "you just got promoted", "there are others that need to be promoted", "you are among the top but need to wait another year" and again "you are almost there but no there yet".

I am certain that going forward, I am not going to be happy since there are others who are getting promoted just because they are the manager's favorites.

Should I go to the HR?

I do not have anything to prove against him and I feel frustrated, please advise.

NOBODY - #GOLD Question

Who here feels appreciated?

It's National Employee Appreciation Day! Aren't we lucky to be working for a company that appreciates its employees as much as Qualcomm? That sees us as its main asset and treats us as such? That would never try to pad the pockets of those on top over our backs? Or try to use layoffs to bring up stock price? Aren't we just so lucky?

*In case it needs mentioning, that was sarcasm.

Good question and even better answers - so it's #GOLD

Health insurance after layoff

Are we still covered for at least a few months after a layoff or do we automatically lose our health insurance?

Frankly, this is my greatest fear when it comes to the possibility of being laid off. Everything else can be overcome, but I can't afford to lose my coverage, as bad and expensive as it is.

My Marriage & State Farm

State Farm has all their employees worried about the future and job security.

Funny how it’s just running my life and my marriage – pressure, tension, insecurity, anxiety, long hours, unrealistic demands.

One day The Farm is gonna get a huge a-- lawsuit on them. Yes, and all our customers will know how they treat people – it will be the fall of State Farm forever.

Why are we failing it is so easy to identify.

What are the traits of a great leader?

Empathy. One of the most valuable traits a human being can possess is the ability to understand people. ...

Awareness. Self-awareness--as well as insight when it comes to the actions of others--is always key to making the best decisions. ...

Honesty. There's nothing more despicable than dishonesty. ...

Decisiveness. ...

Optimism.

Today's VPO call not one of these things were displayed.

Lack of leadership, truly wonder how the hell he got where he is.

Yes it is that simple as to why we are failing. The entire leadership team should be replaced by the board asap.

Funny - very funny... I'll tag it as #GOLD

Sorry, Not Sorry

I didn't want to stoop to the level of writing to this stupid site but there are so many fake and inaccurate posts that I couldn't stay silent

I have worked CHK for over 15 years, and it's probably the best place to work in Oklahoma. It's the best place I've worked, and I have been part of a real family here. I have worked with hundreds of people. I guess that happens when you work in IT, but I have seen some of the best people right next to the worst, and honestly, the best people are still here. Management has made the right decision AGAIN by cutting even more dead weight. It should've happened sooner. As a shareholder, I can't be happier knowing that the right move was made again. I know what some whiners will think. "We have even more work now!" but it's not true. Those who were cut didn't do much anyway, at least when you take clogging the bathroom, congregating instead of working, sitting in Creekside or Skyline for 2hrs per day, and don't forget the long gym workouts. If they spent some time working instead of trying to make excuses about why they couldn't, they would be here.

CHK won't skip a beat without the warm bodies who came for the perks and paychecks. If this post upsets you, consult a mirror. You had the keys to one of the great Oklahoma companies, and you didn't care. Management knows and rewards those who truly keep the engines running, and God willing, my CHK family will be toasting me in another 15-20 years at my retirement party.

I randomly joined, I left last year...

Prayers to all being let go

For all those who have been affected and for all those who will be affected in the days to come I hope that everybody is able to find new employment before you face true Financial hardships. That would include me as well I'm not high level management but I face the same stress and aggravation as everybody else.

With the constant rounds of layoffs that have been taking place, this seems to be the norm for a large companies who feel that the people are expendable and just another way to add profit to their annual earnings reports and to their majority shareholders that hold large amounts of company stocks.

There are lives and families attached to each one of these decisions that are made; the ones that are making these decisions do not have to look at the families and how it affects them. They will continue to live in their bubble. Treating people with respect was the norm a long time ago, it looks like most of our society has gone to the what's in it for me type of Outlook. So my prayers are with you and everyone else who this is going to affect. I do hope that one day it will change from the what's in it for me Outlook to being actually respectful and understanding that people have to go to work and companies have to be there to allow for employment. For many years there's been lots of news reports saying how factory jobs have all gone overseas, now we're watching our American Corporation jobs go overseas. What's going to be left for the United States?

Yes I know I went off on a tangent and I got sidetracked with my initial statement. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you good luck.

I'd like to know the same?

How are people notified?

Can anybody please tell us how are those affected by today's layoffs being notified?

Also, has everybody who was supposed to be laid off in this round been notified already or can we expect more?

Some people were mentioning that this will spill over into tomorrow and I'm hoping beyond hope they are wrong.
