Topics regarding layoffs at General Motors

Humiliated Already?

I would like to see the face of the arrogant manager because of whom I left GM. I am really so happy this happened. That toxic culture needed to be disbanded. God is great!

Lucky GM Employees

Enjoy a few months of doing nothing! Everyone will be busy crafting their resume, no work will be done. Stock price is reflective of that

Welcome to the Corporate World!

https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/09/business/gm-layoffs/index.html GM employees are 'strongly encouraged' to consider its voluntary separation program. Or else you will be separated. 2019 reoccurring again. When will we get out of this Hire to Fire... — read more

So much BS

GM defends its promise by not calling the cuts layoffs, but rather performance-based separations. It's all about semantics, right?

Voluntary separation

Just heard an email went out regarding voluntary separation. If they don't hit their number with voluntary, they'll make it with layoffs. No way to save $2B in two years without cutting jobs. Someone please remind me what Mary Barra said about no... — read more

I have not bought a new car in over forty years.

I remember car dealers back than but can't remember if it was Chevy, Ford or Chrysler. Well what one of the Dealers did back than was to hold a Weekend Sale. The Dealer would offer anyone $2,000 bucks on their old car no matter how they got their... — read more

Isn't it ironic?

It's ironic that the same people who: *Blasted SLT for calling for a return to the office *Threatened to quit after the bonus over RTO *Made a big stink about quiet quitting over RTO *Shared "dank memes" about GM on Yammer *Complained extensively... — read more

Same as ever

I have seen management target older, higher paid employees and they go from exceeds on performance to partially meets. There is no recourse with HR as they work for management. They also then reduce an equal number of younger people to offset the... — read more

Review general motors job culture in glassdoor

People who lost job please review gm job culture in glassdoor. Most of people look into glassdoor review before they even take offers. As Mary tells we need to speak up for safety of young graduates who has passion to work for gm. Let them know how... — read more

Terminal cancer patient and fired!

GM will go down as the most inhumane employer ever. They just fired me after they knew I am going through terminal stage of cancer. I know my family will never own a GM again. I recommend people boycott GM products!

Prediction for GM’s future

Just a prediction, backed by articles GM will sell off its brands - 2-3 years Mary Barra will be kicked off or retire - under 3 years GM will continue downsizing using a combination of methods - lay offs, let gos, attrition etc - 2023-2025 .. — read more

I don't see this as a bad thing

If it was underperformers who were cut for once, I say good on General Motors. We have too many of them as it is. I'm tired of seeing great people kicked to the curb just because their pay was higher than average and some number cruncher said they... — read more

Over 500 GM employees electrified

That’s what it was. LOL That company deserves no loyalty. The employees there are sheep, following a leader. They have no spine or character. They also lack moral compass or skills. May this company cease to exist!

Layoffs to follow?

Unless GM was able to get rid of enough people based on reviews, chances are we'll be looking at more layoffs soon. Although to be honest, after hearing about people being let go without anything, the prospect of layoffs suddenly seems less scary... — read more

Gm cutting cost again!!!

That's why there was no PIP. https://www.reuters.com/markets/us/gm-cutting-hundreds-jobs-it-looks-reduce-costs-2023-02-28/

GM planning to sell itself

GM is planning to sell itself after getting rid of some brands this year. In 2 years, there will be no GM. So the ones left behind, get your resume ready for a job outside GM or you’ll be next.

Bloodbath at GM Starts

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/general-motors/2023/02/28/gm-cutting-executive-white-collar-jobs/69955417007/ So happy I fled the auto industry a few years ago!

No more PIPs?

Does this mean that improvement plans are now a thing of the past? Are you kidding me with that?

You're better off

Being let go from GM can only secure you a better future, not worse.

Can somebody provide more info, please?

Are people being laid off or fired due to bad reviews? There's a huge difference between the two and I can't find anybody saying it's one or the other for sure.

Only one more week

So many who can’t handle going into work a few days a week threatened to leave after the bonus. This is a week away. Do they have jobs lined up? Time will tell. I suspect the vast majority are full of it and they aren’t going anywhere. The job... — read more

How do I know how I performed on my CAP?

Just had my CAP and my manager seemed a little cagey. I'm looking at 2022 payout. "2022 Actual Team GM Performance Plan Pay Out $32000" I'm only getting $16000. Does that mean I'm a poor performer - as in PIP? Or 50% is just the average payout... — read more
