Plan A: Tell them to return to the office, and the resignations will roll in!
Reality: Very few quit (despite many empty threats).
Plan B: Terminate hundreds while calling it "not a layoff" to spook people into leaving when they transition to Plan C.
Reality: Employees just got more bitter, realized GM SLT were LIARS and started to feel like abused spouses.
Plan C: Roll out VSP and the resignations will ROLL IN!!!
Reality: Once again, people were too comfortable and too well paid to take the bait. Beyond that, 2 weeks isn't enough to setup a new job or a major life transition. I think management knows this. Which brings us to...
Plan D: Involuntary Separations aka mass layoff. We went from Plan A to Plan C in a month. You can imagine that Plan D will take place very quickly after March 24.

SLT have established that they are desperate and that they are LIARS. Not to be trusted.
Why are they so desperate for a head count reduction? What do they know about existing sales, projected sales and other data? As banks fail, the economy moves into another great recession and geopolitical threats heat up, GM is very likely to go bankrupt as they roll out faulty EVs that most Americans DO NOT WANT.

After Plan D, salary employees will be threatened and abused. 5 days mandatory in office, "we are watching you", mandatory unpaid overtime, you name it. Managers will be pacing the isles watching you work. 4 reviews a year to keep that dog collar in the choke position. It won't yield great results. Not a great environment for creativity, being bold or innovative. It's their clown show.

I think yes, GM has already shown their hand. They are bold faced liars. Read mbt's article on linked in about work appropriately. People made major decisions based on that only to have them implement RTO and then gaslight us. The same with layoffs, a month before it was publicly stated there would be no layoffs. What comes next is more performance calibrations. Those who are left in a few months will be carrying a huge workload. I hope you all have seen through the empty virtue signaling. Put yourself and family first. GM is not family, just a falling dynasty.

I ask myself that same question after I eat Mexican food.

They're waiting to see how the VSP does.

The next step will happen soon after the deadline, March 24.
