Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Same as ever

I have seen management target older, higher paid employees and they go from exceeds on performance to partially meets. There is no recourse with HR as they work for management. They also then reduce an equal number of younger people to offset the older ones. Rinse and repeat.

This is GM's modus operandi. It should be illegal but they found a loophole and now they're doing whatever they want. This is costing us some amazing and very much needed employees with loads of institutional knowledge, but nobody in the management cares.

If he had moved on to another company instead of retiring they probably would have followed him again.

I think he brought like 100 people with him, ranging from first line managers up to VPs.

I'm sure a lot are still there, both because there were so many of them and they worked together to maintain their hold

Randy’s people came in and thought they knew everything and dismissed the knowledge of long time GM employees. The culture he created was toxic. All run from Austin. I know MB did not like him and surprised she kept him around for so long. Thankfully GM people are back in charge. I’m surprised Randy’s tribe haven’t largely left. Must have gotten paid some big $

I wonder how many of the former Dell flunkies were targeted. There are a number in IT leadership and they all cover for each other.

What I will say as an Ex-GM is that there are better opportunities outside GM with much better culture. GM's management (or lack thereof) is their loss and not ours.
