Topics regarding layoffs at NetApp

I left NTAP because the culture there is long dead.

I left NTAP because the culture there is long dead. They are not the NetApp they were 5 years ago. After 3 layoffs, the atmosphere on the RTP campus is melancholy and abysmal. I could not be any more happy to be out of there and at a company that... — read more

Hardware

Confirmed with a VP in engineering that hardware group will take a hit. There is a big push now within NetApp is leveraging whitebox / ODM solutions. Just look at Solidfire -- someone else's hardware!

Severance

Everyone I'm talking to in Sunnyvale saw it coming and is pretty happy. They're glad that they slow rolled it and got the severance. It's like a double blessing -- long lead time on the layoff and two months paid leave.

Wichita Layoffs

More than 10 conference rooms in Wichita are reserved from 8am to 1pm CST. This is horrible!!

Sad day

I am currently watching people walk out with all their stuff. This is a sad day for NetApp. Best of luck to everyone.

GK's email is out.

Team, Today, we will begin notifying employees who will be impacted by the global restructuring we announced on February 17. Most of the impacted employees will be notified over the next 24 hours. However, in parts of EMEA and APAC, the restructuring... — read more

I was dismissed in the Feb 2014 layoff after 15 years in PS. NetApp management experience is not very highly regarded in the marketplace.

In fact most knowledgeable hiring managers will question if you were somehow part of the well known problems that brought NetApp to the sad place it now exists. Since the introduction on Clustered ONTAP I had customers asking if they could just stay... — read more

I cleaned out my desk on Friday and am not coming back in until I know that NetApp has a permanent place for me and several of the other members of my team. I've got several interviews in process with one "sure thing" nailed down. Thanks to everyone... — read more

Support is going to Level 1

After running into a friend and member of management out having some drinks with friends I have learned NetApp now has level 1 working/being dispatched most cases leaving level 2 with only escalations. Doing the math - support will be taking a heavy... — read more

I heard from multiple sources that a couple managers in support were escorted out today in Wichita. Has the bloodbath started?

Layoff solution

Getting rid of perks is not the answer to keeping jobs. There is a fundamental issue with the core of this company. This won't be the last round of layoffs. I'd expect another one same time next year, if not later this year, because as the company is... — read more

Wake up, this is a Novell moment

I left a few months back and now use Amazon aws on a daily basis. There is no comparison to an on premise solution. For 80% of the workloads, Amazon beats anything on prem in terms of delivery time and if you are careful cost. This is one of those... — read more

3/1 Makes Sense

Q4 end is 4/30. 4/30 - 3/1 = 61 days. If they send out the notices on 3/1, this would give everyone full benefits (not just partial month), provide 60 days of termination notice before Q4 end, and also would fall within what GK promised the market on... — read more

About three weeks ago

About three weeks ago, a recruiter told me that "at least a 10% layoff" would be announced on the same day they reported earnings. I have no idea how he knew that, but he was spot on.
