Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

RIP Altavault

All my Altavault contacts were canned this last go around, and I hear that there is no marketing money to promote and market it, as all marketing dollars have gone to flash.

This is a shame because this was in my opinion the only solid piece of the data fabric story. Everything else (NPS and Cloud ONTAP) were very ephemeral and squishy.

AltaVault is a no brainer product every customer facing employee is or should be able to pitch/sell/size. The S3 traget is something more advanced

yeah, NetApp's history of acquisitions has more sad endings than happy ones.

But NPS and Cloud ONTAP do not seem 'ephemeral'; NPS was just tailored 'hyperscalar-colocation' story for FAS, and Cloud ONTAP is a real product (albeit an expensive one).

AltaVault is just a simple 'cloud cache'; it seemed like StorageGRID WebScale can do anything AV can do, and SGWS has more upsell opportunity.

Surprise surprise. What with Netapp's stellar acquisition track record.
