What do you think, was this just the start?

I'm pretty sure that Kurian stated (maybe jut internally?) that this was part of an 18-month plan for cutting costs. That translates into "Yes, there will be more layoffs, probably already being planned."
@GjUmTUq-enk , not sure how you get the $400M for the recent severance numbers.
For the sake of argument, assume...
1,500 cut
$200,000 / year for each employee (~$15,000 per month, obviously on the high end)
frees up $22.5M per month
Assume each person gets 4 months paid (severance and paid leave), then that makes about $90M.
Denise Cox and the executives are still around to make more bad decisions so yes.
In Emea indefinite work contracts are very difficult to terminate, they may offer you a package (which you can negotiate ) or they may put a blame on your work performance.. Do not be fooled if people in Emea are affected heavily know your rights.. This is 2016 not 1916.
Unless they can come up with a reason to effectively fire one (not officially, mind you, which is very hard in EMEA. There needs to be solid proof).
If you don't keep your head down and mouth shut, or - god beware - you step up and speak (internally) about your observations of what is severely broken, they actually find reasons. Ideally without a severance package for good measure too...
Rumor has it, some higher-ups were testing if certain people want to serve as a witness for getting a third person fired. Apparently some couldn't be swayed, but since work laws are different in each country, that may be enough to terminate those other persons... Apparently a change of EMEA leaders had to occur before those other persons could be fired, as the long term manager in charge earlier would not have that executed.
The spirit has fully escaped.
No more nuisances nowadays in pursuit of spotless process adherence.
plus, there were some in this round that were given a 3 month phase out period to wind down there respective business units/teams
yes there is huge uncertainity in emea
people are waiting knowing that they can be fired
no good
Yup. And with less money in the bank ($800M for Solidfire, $400M for the most recent severance) there'll be no money left for the next round of severances. One can be bitter about this round of layoffs and how Netapp supposedly laid off its "best and brightest", but consider it a gift to its "best and brightest", a "Thank you for your years of hard work and sacrifice" because the inevitable next round will be clearing out the "resting-and-vesting crowd".
yes... a lot of 'extra time' is given to non-US employees due to labor laws...
