Is PMIC validation a low level technical role?

I’ve been working at the San Diego office doing PMIC validation for over two years now. My day to day is mostly testing the PMIC chips, screening for defects, and putting together reports and slides. Honestly, once you figure out what to look for, the work is incredibly easy. You definitely don’t need a degree to do it, yet management keeps hiring people with Master's degrees and PhDs. It feels like a massive waste of talent.

The worst part is that you’re heavily judged here not by the actual quality of your work, but by how the tech leads perceive your social skills. From talking to people in other departments, it seems like Qualcomm in general has this issue, but it feels way worse in PMIC. Maybe because the work is so simple that a test monkey could do it, so managers focus on politics instead? I’ve barely learned anything here and honestly feel like my technical skills are rotting.

I tried casually talking to a few coworkers about how easy the work is and how unfair and rude the leads can be, but they got super defensive right away, so I stopped bringing it up.

For anyone who has worked here or in similar teams: is PMIC validation in San Diego known for being super low on the technical side, or did I just land in a bad group?

Surprise, surprise, layoffs again!

After a month and a half of quietly laying folks off, athenahealth finally announced to the rest of us that today multiple people were layed off. Some being entire teams. They refuse to comment on how many people. They did, however, state that athena needs different skills and will be creating new positions. Have these people never heard of training?

Fis leadership is a joke

One of my colleague and I was terminated on March and 30th June was the last date. I left fis today and my other colleague got in to some other team inside fis even the skills are not matching and the work isn't related at all. I am wondering how the hiring manager and the leadership approve such things to happen!! This is just terrible place.

Offshore is Scam! ITC doesn't want to hire experienced engineers who worked at WHQ even if they are willing to relocate.

15yrs experienced software developer from cognizant (offshore) who is working for Nike for last few years doesn't know what is github or doesn't know the meaning of commit / repository. I mean literally some resources don't know anything and i am not sure how many companies they are working at same time. They celebrate when they hear people who make them work get laid off. ITC leaders trying to build their own empire and they don't want to hire people who are talented and have worked for same company. RIP Nike Technology!

AI Reshapes Employment, Creates Skill Disparity

Artificial intelligence is creating a significant divide in the global workforce. Professionals with AI skills are seeing increased productivity and higher paychecks. Companies like Meta and Amazon are restructuring roles, with AI handling repetitive tasks. Human workers are left with high-order thinking, strategy, creativity, and empathy. This trend is leading to AI-related layoffs and job redefinition. Without proper reskilling efforts, this gap could become a major structural divide.

TSI - What’s the point?

Over 6 months into having a BP Staff TSI Engineer take over from a UK based Engineer in my team who was let go.

Myself, and increasingly several others from other disciplines are needing to step in and coach, and correct mistakes from our TSI. Mistakes that rarely happened before and if they did could be sorted over a desk not over time zones.

The bar to entry has been set so incredibly low just to get bodies in chairs.

Yes, they are on 40% of the money, but the output is half, the support required is 4x and it’s demoralising us who are left.

If this is good business I’ll have my hand firmly in the air at the next EOI.

How is a developer at this company supposed to pivot elsewhere?

I got this job out of college a few years ago and every time someone tells me to jump ship and so on I'm met with the reality that my skills and knowledge have either remained stagnant or actually gotten worse with this company. Combine that with programing in C and I feel like I've been left holding the bag. I need options here before I somehow find myself replaced by an Indian despite being told "Your work is proprietary and cannot be done by offshore employees," as if that's stopped PHI being leaked and exposed for the past several months or turning entire teams into being contractors for Tech Mahindra.

BA role with Fiserv DNA Experience

What does a Business Analyst do, supporting Fiserv DNA? Is it difficult to catch on if I have BA experience but not specific to DNA experience? I'm thinking about doing an internal transfer for this role but would like to hear feedback from one that has been in a similar role.
