Hearing from friends in different orgs that silent layoffs started earlier this month—right after GSX.

Llamasoft SCDP acquired for $1.5B out, Scoutbee in. No announcement.

I’m seeing so many sudden departures this week! And everyone appears to be saying nice things about their experience in Exxonmobil….

Are most of these PILs? If so, I know ppl don’t want to burn bridges, but perhaps consider departing silently, so that more innocent ppl on LinkedIn don’t get deceived that this is such a wonderful place to work?

No announcements, no WARN, just a few people here and there?

Be aware: they no longer want the negative attention and blowback from company wide layoffs. Instead, they are doing aggressive, targeted cuts. Yesterday, they laid off several directors and engineers from DevOps. Before that, marketing, design, and CS3.

Silent layoffs of big amount of senior engineers

Quite a few people outside my team I occasionally talk to have simply vanished over the last couple of weeks.

Silent Generation (1928 to 1945)
Followed rules, kept their heads down, built quietly

Baby Boomers (1946 to 1964)
Lived large, bought everything, now gatekeeping everything.

Gen X (1965 to 1980)
Trusts no one, complains little, secretly runs the world,

Millennials (1981 to 1996)
Chased purpose, got burnout, still pretending their fine.

Gen Z (1997 to 2012)
Questions everything, trusts nothing, feels everything

Gen Alpha (2013 to 2025)
Born with iPads, raised by YouTube, future unknown
