Topics regarding layoffs at Follett

Time to work away from your desk!

It goes without saying that this restructure was out of the blue and a clear shake up in some regards. However, the business needs to stay afloat somehow and there needed to be a major restructure so the business did not go under. It's time for... — read more

RM jobs ?

There are several RM positions available in myHr... Did some RM's get fired?

Stop complaining

I have been around a long time, worked with a lot of store managers, and you know what??!! There are a lot that have not worked so hard. If you run a store that sells basically course materials you are busy about 1/4 of the year between prep and... — read more

What happened to "transparency"?

This new alignment will fail, you can't pay people less and expect more. You can't cookie cut stores, what's it called when you keep trying the same thing over and over expecting different results?

Dear Evil Empire

I’m doing everything I can to be able to quit right before rush.

Someone would have to be really desperate

Why would anyone that has been laid off apply to a new position with more task, less money, no job security?? What they are paying for Manager replacements you can make the same at most hourly positions for just customer service. Exactly... — read more

More work, less pay = stupid titles

Aren't these backwards? *Campus Store Leader: 5+ years of big box, multi-unit retail management experience. Salary Grade 6 (requires more work, more years of experience and less pay) *Campus Store Manager: 3-5 years of retail management or strong... — read more

The emperor is not wearing any clothes

“Realignment” is what they call it. I call it the obvious signs of decline. Personally, I’m applying to whatever job pays more than what they demoted me to. I really love my college, so this hurts. I hope all affected find jobs that don’t ki-l their... — read more

Failing business

I can’t wait to tell them to sh0ve their job. I will throw a party when this clownshow declares bankruptcy. It’s incredible that they think this new model will not be disastrous. Don’t worry, I’ll let everyone know why problems arise. If they think... — read more

New Openings

Of course, why would we expect Follett to have their sh-t together and have the new openings posted this morning? Lord forbid HR and the higher ups would work a little late yesterday to ensure they were posted first thing this morning.

Another Round

OTC is the next to be impacted by reductions/layoffs. No one is safe from the impact of reductions. Everyone will be doing the job of 2+ people. We’ve always been top heavy, now we are right sizing to attain ultimate profitability. Buckle up folks…I... — read more

Is anybody happy with their job?

Sounds like everybody is utterly miserable at Follett these days. I used to work there, and I’m shocked to see how much everybody hates it. It used to be a great place to work about 15 years ago. I recently ran into a former coworker which had me... — read more

I wish I was fired

Really, there is no winning in this situation. I wonder what they expect performance wise, from a group of people who no longer care.

Question for those who are being laid off

What are your plans as far as applying for future work is concerned? Do you plan on leveraging your on-campus contacts and possibly applying for a position with the school you are currently working at itself? Do you even plan on applying for any of... — read more

Up against a wall

I hate myself for having to accept a demotion. I wish they fired me, and then there’s no choice to make. This is insulting and humiliating.

We are just a “variable expense”

I am so uninspired to want to continue working here un alone proud to be working for this group! It also shows, that this leadership group doesn't care and are not going to do anything to inspire anyone! Did you notice they are hiring a director of... — read more

Manager Pay Cuts

For current store managers, how much of a pay cut did they tell you if you are to stay? In my region, speaking to a number of other managers, it seems like it is all over the place. Some have no cut, others substantial.

Left out in the cold with no direction

I am losing several of my coworkers and am being completely ignored by my RM and home office team. I wish I had been let go because this is more stress than I can handle.

This is why people “don’t want” to work

An individual puts in effort, time and loyalty in their workplace, and this is what they get. The horrid actions of this investment group are all too common these days. Why would anyone want to work in a culture like this?

Anyone else promoted without raise?

I hear that it is not at all rare that someone is promoted without a raise. This is definitely a big red flag for everyone to leave as soon as possible because this company is in nose dive state.

Finals week, Graduation, Orientation

How are we supposed to survive the triple 3 without any managers or team members? You can not run a store with all temps and 1 Store Lead who has no idea how to prep for any of it! Also, the plethora of efollett orders during that time of year. WTH... — read more

Regional Managers!

NOW we know that the Regional Managers were involved in the decision making. It’s why they had to sign an NDA and were at the home office all week. Give your Regional a thumbs up for a good job. 🖕 The next step is for 25-40% of the regional managers... — read more

Totally lost motivation

I don't know if anyone could be motivated and productive in these circumstances and in this atmosphere. I certainly can't. I will hardly be able to make the bare minimum effort because it is quite clear that it is much better to invest my energy... — read more

Something, Something Reality

Look, this sucks. It does for everyone getting termed, and for everyone getting a demotion. But people need to face some facts. This industry, educational retail, is a dying one that will only become more unprofitable as direct-to-consumer "vertical... — read more

There are better jobs out there

Service!

After 20plus years of service and never having issues with the College or Faculty on Campus. Always willing to help at other stores when called upon doesn’t pay off! Slap with a demotion a ridiculous pay cut that they are bringing temps in at that... — read more

This is humiliating

I have to admit that I was a little surprised by all this because, despite everything, I thought that this company had a better plan for the future. If I'm not good enough no longer needed here while those who have only been there for a few... — read more

We were barely getting through rush and graduation as it is.

Now all it only be me and the store director and everyone else is either transferring or forced to quit. What about all the other things the managers did?? What about rush? How are we going to manage a sales floor when the GM manager was laid off??

Unemployment question

If we get offered a job but it is a substantial pay cut and we don't take it, are we still eligible for unemployment benefit?

More support in the field? HOW?

How is firing 100+ people giving more support to the field? How is firing almost all GMs and CMs more support for the field? What the he-l kind of logic is this? Change a title take a pay cut but you are still doing the work of 4 people. How is... — read more
