Like our leader, I've been through six of these downturns, and can tell you this time it's different. In the past, the people-cutting started with expensive management and reducing layers in addition to non-management employees. Attempts at zero... — read more
Why
Are we hiring so many new contractors in the San Juan recently?
Layoff Dot Com Famous
I feel privileged to be able to say I not only saw four Layoff Dot Com celebrities but was able to speak to 2 of them today. I was hoping to get to get a hug and autograph from my favorite celeb coworker but I felt it inappropriate .
Why not
Lets take the next few days and live wild style! Anything goes
Monday, again
Monday is here again. As I sit and stare out my office window, trying to get motivated to work, I'm thinking I should call my EAP. Are they helpful? What can I do about this despair and numbness?
What's Gone Wrong
I'm one of the long term survivors, you probably know me. I've watched the company collapse into less than mediocrity. Because there's no work (but they continue to pay me well!) I've had a long time to figure out what's gone wrong.... And it's the... — read more
L48... where good employees go to die
L48 is slowly but surely stealing the souls of the good folks we have left. It appears drinking the koolaid or quitting are the only options. Speaking up or trying to fix things is a punishable offense but you'll be rewarded with a top rating if you... — read more
Shame stuff different day
Tomorrow's Monday wonder what is on the work menu?
Does anyone remember
The exact day COP ruined your life?
Thanks for the laughs
Thank you to this site and all of you. Misery loves company, so part of my coping is reviewing the posts out here. I just burst out laughing for half a minute and couldn't control it. A good laugh is good medicine.
Your Kool Aide doesn't work on me anymore
Just seeing what's going on. Got the boot on the last round. Just had an add for ConocoPhillips pop up while checking my email. What are you wasting your money advertising that propaganda for? Needless to say, I didn't open the add. Instead, I X'd it... — read more
CNOOC? CNPC?
Saw large Asian contingency walking out of EC3 last night.....
It's Friday. Came in early. Been here for an hour. Lunch time is still an hour away. Already bored.
Any one have any ideas as to how to pass the time. It just drags on. Tee-time isn't until 2:00. Any help would be appreciated. Nobody here, no phone calls, no e-mails. It is getting like this every day. Am video-game fatigued. There must be something... — read more
Safety culture going to S$!t
I fear that COP is no longer a safe place to work! People are allowed to grow beards now, and everyone knows you can't work safe and have a beard! How can they put on the scbas to perform emergency rescue that procedure prohibits them from performing... — read more
Relationship
I recently over heard 2 employees referring to working here like being in a abusive relationship. You know you should get out but its all you know if you leave it will change everything, but it beats you down and you swear you are going to leave but... — read more
How soon will BARTLESVILLE layoffs start?
Will we start seeing people leave soon or will it be after the Canadian asset sale is completed closed? Do we have a couple of months or a couple of weeks? When the next asset sells I guess we start all over again.
RL
You think RL uses this site?
Lets play a game
Lets see how long will it take the company to realize people are not and have not been working ? We are all sitting around on layoff.com watching drama like tv , you tube usage has got to be at an all time high and pretty sure everyone in this asset... — read more
San Juan San Juan San Juan. Tired of San Juan whining and moaning. Panhandle-Anadarko-Barnett will be sold off too.
Don't hear near the level of complaining. We are gone and need to deal with the consequence. Stop the non-ending crying.
So sad
The reality as PG and RL "retire" is that they just didn't do good enough or the corporation wouldn't be selling us off. Nice work leading the BU boys......
Survivors May Be In For A Prolong Period Of Stagnation
May be looking at decades with no advancement opportunitiesfor those in their 20's, 30's & 40's. We have experienced layoffs, asset sales, exits from future growth outlets (international exploration & deep water GOM). The company is shrinking. Look... — read more
Who Runs The Bingo
A term thrown around loosely here in SJBU implieing one group has more power over another group or that one group can succeed without various support groups. The sad fact to all this hatred is that production couldn't/ wouldn't take care of their... — read more

How long until COP is completely out of Canada? Your guesses and comments here.
I give the company 2 years max before enough appraisal work is done at Blueberry and oil prices start to climb before they can find a buyer for Surmont. Total is also a complicating factor. Nobody will want nay part of Surmont if they are being... — read more

Cenovus backing out of Canada deal, new buyer in wings
I was visiting the tavern Sunday afternoon discussing the sale of ConocoPhillips Canada to Cenovus when the landlord mentioned that P66 would be buying the Canada assets instead. What do "thelayoff" readers think of that?
Mercy
It is actually physically painful to come to work these days. I feel like I have an 85yr old body or was just ran over by a truck. Be merciful Leaders and end this circus.
