Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Monday, again

Monday is here again. As I sit and stare out my office window, trying to get motivated to work, I'm thinking I should call my EAP. Are they helpful? What can I do about this despair and numbness?

Grow up!

The only place you can work without worrying about getting laid off is someplace that has no accountability "Government".

First of all, I want to say that the feelings you describe are shared by many more than you realize. It's been YEARS now with layoff looming over your heads. As grateful as we might be for our paycheck, the constant stress will wear you down. You can't concentrate, motivation is gone and fear/worry dominate your sleep and your waking hours. Sound dramatic? Maybe for some. I lived just what you're describing. My layoff was almost a relief because at least then I knew. The not knowing just about did me in. Maybe the numbness protects a bit. If you feel like EAP would help, call them. And don't pay any attention to the insensitive. trolls on this board. My guess is that if they were required to put their real names we'd see a lot less of them. Courage in anonymity, you know? Hang in there. There's nothing wrong with you.

Ha! Yes, nice reply. And worse: they call HR to inform them that employee #xyz is not as productive as they could be and that you should be at the head of the line in the next layoff round. Call me cynical, but I don't trust ANY of these people.

Yeah. EAP. Put your faith in some failed psychiatrist who couldn't make it all the way through school and is associated with the likely source organization worsening your condition.

You sound depressed. You can schedule an appointment with a therapist. Or several since unlike other doctors, you want to have somewhat of a rapport with this person. Sometimes they suggest medication but only you will know if that's the right option. Find something fun outside of work. Something to look forward to.

For starters you can be happy you have an office! I don't have an office or cube I have to smile 24/7 and would do just about anything to snuggle up in a hoodie and grab some earbuds today but that is never gonna happen so zip it
