The Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) Boston announced 33 employee layoffs this week. This reduction affects approximately 6.3% of its total workforce. The museum cited an unsustainable deficit and restructuring as reasons for the cuts. Sixteen of the positions eliminated are held by unionized workers. These layoffs mark the second round for the MFA in six years.

I know a few people that were recently let go in Boston. Rumored be part of the initial phase of the Lake Mary relocation (they relayed to their manager that they had no interest in moving to Florida and that feedback was cascaded up).
All of them here 10+ years.
3 or 4 years ago they would have been given 6+ months. I think the maximum used to be 52 weeks.
I am hearing they each received full pay to the end of the pay period plus another 4 weeks.
Is this the new policy? Is a quality severance for people with 20+ years officially now gone? Has anyone heard of anyone let go in the last few months that was given a more substantial package?
Stan McLaren, CEO of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, resigned in mid-December. His departure followed internal dissent over staff layoffs and mission concerns. The nonprofit laid off 25 people and closed a 20-bed medical respite facility. These actions were taken as the organization faces significant Medicaid funding cuts. Dr. Denise De Las Nueces, the chief medical officer, is now serving as interim CEO.

There are many Boston based employees that still have no in office requirement and that will remain indefinitely (meaning they will stay remote). as they fall under the “run the business” header.

I happen to be watching the Maple Leafs / Bruins game. Shell seems to be a sponsor as there is a very large Shell pectin on the ice. What is Shell’s tie to Boston (unless it’s just retail stations)?
AirSlate, which became a so-called "unicorn" in 2022 and in 2023 had about 80 employees in Boston, is laying off people across its offices globally.
