Topics regarding layoffs at IBM

The Barber is In

Even with all the reductions I still see many bloated areas in IBM. In your opinion, which ones need a haircut the most?

Voluntary redundancy plan in France

IBM France announced today a voluntary redundancy plan for up to 1251 people. These redundancies will mostly consist of early retirement (for people less than 5 years away from retirement). There will be no resource action this year.

Letter 5: Q1 and much more

Hello, your old pal Deep Throat here again. I thought I would give a brief update on the current state of affairs. Including Red Hat revenue (it’s in there somewhere, just turn over a rock or two), Q1 2021, layoffs, spin offs and whatever other... — read more

What is the layoff process like at IBM?

At my old company the whole process was a nightmare. A two-minute scripted talk with my manager and an HR representative after which I was walked out by security like a common criminal. They didn't even give me a chance to pick up my staff (they said... — read more

Kyndryl Sets IT Services Agenda Post IBM Spinoff

To what extent do they replace the people who left?

Some here say that IBM replaces people who have gone with people who are just not up to the tasks. This is certainly a big problem, however, I don't really notice that this company replaces people at all enough. That may be an even bigger problem... — read more

LEGAL???

I'm hearing about many US based employees who are not currently in GTS but are being forced out of their role and being moved to kyndryl. They cannot apply for any open positions in IBM and if they don't accept the transfer, they will be eliminated... — read more

Likely buyer?

Betting that once its established, kyndryl will likely be an acquisition target. Anyone agree? Timeline? Who do you think the players will be?

I feel like I'm drowning in work

Losing a few people was tough, losing even more has made my work unbearable. I'm trying to keep up the best I can but I'm being pulled in all directions. I need to support and help everybody while I have nobody to help me. Does management care? Don't... — read more

What to do before leaving? With HR

Companies destroyed after IBM's acquisitions

Which company first comes to mind when someone asks you about a company that had quite a solid prospect, until IBM acquired it? I’m almost certain that Watson Health would have had a much better future now if IBM hadn’t gotten its fingers involved... — read more

Nothing I support is owned by IBM

I work in one of IBM's "Hybrid Cloud" environments. And, I can say first hand that there is nothing technology wise I support that is owned by IBM. FACT!!! Sooooo... Why would anyone choose IBM to support their IT environment.

Bands

Do people get promoted to bands more than 1 above their current one, even if they're doing the responsibilities of a band 2–3 levels above? Or, does it have to go in order? Are there certain time periods that have to elapse before band changes? — read more

GDPS? Will IBM sell or transfer that?

Some Mainframe IBM clients now speculate that IBM will somehow sell or transfer the GDPS product suite to Kyndryl? GDPS family of offerings help IBM clients achieve defined goals for disaster recovery and high availability.

IBM is nothing more than a technology hedgefund

It actually has so much cash, they could be in the top 10 of banks and their finance organization is a main driver of their survival. The net/net is that they don't have much to offer but to buy companies and milk them for revenue, toss them out... — read more

Id--t managers are always a risk.

I feel bad for my older colleagues

I'm the youngest member on my team and I seem to be the only one here who is not constantly worried about his job. Everybody else is scared all the time. To say the work atmosphere is somber would be an understatement. That is no way to live, in my... — read more

Will kyndryl layoff contractors?

At present much of the GTS workforce is contractors. Best guess is they would be first to go once the split is complete and kyndryl is trying to get the ROI per person to look right?

High time to sell Power and Storage???

Is there anyone else who thinks this should have happened a long time ago? How useful are they at all? Any thoughts? I absolutely agree with the person who said that IBM will need to be very resourceful if it wants to get rid of Power and Storage... — read more
