Layoff would be a blessing in disguise

I used to make maximum efforts because I wanted to stay here for a long time, but now I think that a layoff would be a blessing for me. Why? Because I think that in any case those who are laid off will be better off than those who stay here in an... — read more

Opt in to VERP / severance?

Does anyone know if you have the ability to "opt-in" to the VERP? I know it will vary by OU / function, but I'm curious if it can be done and if so who to reach out to. The obvious choice, is my manager, but our group hasn't had one in a couple... — read more

No big deal

Medtronic is losing a ton of top-notch employees, but the bosses up top are just sitting pretty and not doing much of anything. It's like a big wave of the best people leaving and the higher-ups are acting like, "Eh, no big deal." It's not a good... — read more

Rice Creek Campus to be sold off

Ex-com is looking into selling the Rice Creek campus. This might be the sign they will be combining the Neuro and CVG implantable BUs. Good luck with that integration nightmare.

Wake up call to leave this company!

While some of us may survive this round of layoffs, the outlook of Medtronic does not look good long term. Our leadership is incapable of running this company, while our competitors are stomping down our throats. The damage done on piling back... — read more

Culture has been totally destroyed

I remember when I first came here what the culture was like and it is literally impossible to compare it with the culture as it is now. It's just amazing how quickly the culture here has been destroyed isn't it?

Layoffs while on vacation

Can you be laid off while on vacation? I know this might be a stupid question, but I’m kind of hoping that my manager wouldn’t approve my PTO if he knew that I’d be getting a call in the middle of it to tell me I no longer have a job. Has this... — read more

Diabetes Town Hall

What did you all think? The answers to layoff-related questions were very vague. We still have no clue when they're going to announce it.

The slowness of this RIF

Every other major RIF I’ve seen has been executed fast. Usually the people affected had little clue it was going to happen until receiving the meeting invite for when they were informed. I know it sucked for them but I think they appreciated that it... — read more

Greg and Geoff need to go! Board step up.

The supply chain and sourcing groups needs to be held accountable for backorder issues yet they have determined to be immune to these layoffs. They are the biggest contributor to our poor performance. Greg Smith and Geoff Martha need to go. They are... — read more

Always strive to be more competitive

it's important to keep in mind that companies often have a specific business need or strategy that drives their hiring decisions. For example, if a company is developing new software products, they may prioritize hiring software engineers with... — read more

Layoffs today

We know there were small cuts yesterday, has there been a continuation today? This is outside of any major layoff announcement so it's hard to get any info on it. It's sad that our management offers no information and we have to turn to anonymous... — read more

Defying the RTO mandate

I know some groups were already going to the office a few days a week. What do they use to monitor who does and who doesn't show up for the mandated two days? Is there anybody from those groups who decided not to go in? Have there been any... — read more

Return to office

The message has been distributed. Our amazing leaders want us back in office a minimum of three days a week. How is everyone feeling? I'm irritated (no business partners local), and I work too much as it is. I'm wondering if it's just another way of... — read more

We are still hiring

I'm confused about why we're still hiring when we're in the middle of a cost-cutting season and I'd also like to know how can Medtronic even find people who are willing to join at this place in time. Our reputation is suffering. The word about how... — read more

Date of layoff announcement

I was wondering when will layoff be announced? Last year, IT had a reorg, the date of announcement was early June, any insight to this year’s layoff announcement date? I assume HR is working on the list right now.

How does severance work?

Anyone know what the severance will consist of, if PTO/MIP/long term incentives payout, and if you can double dip with unemployment? Trying to get my finances in order prior to the reckoning. Fun times…Good luck to all.

Quarterly Town Hall

What did everyone think? Sure was a lot of positivity for missing everywhere under the sun regarding AOP this year, but meeting external expectations. Can this be tied to leadership being disconnected from what is realistic for us to achieve?

If you're unhappy, quit!

We only get one shot at this thing called life, right? So why waste our time working at a place where nobody appreciates us? I mean, sure, getting a pat on the back every once in a while feels good, but that's not enough. We deserve to work somewhere... — read more

CDM OU dissolving

Heard some rumors about the impending closure of CDM OU. Is it true?

I'm looking for a way out

Almost everybody I talked to in the last few weeks said the same thing. I'm thinking that Medtronic might end up losing more employees than they expected - and I'm talking about knowledgeable employees with decades of experience. I'm guaranteeing you... — read more

I am getting tire of endless reorg

Even the reorg and recent layoff do not affect me, I am so tired of hearing reorg and people leaving……just feel distracted and sad still being here……

Greg Smith ki-led the VERP

From my sources they said Greg Smith was the only EVP to NOT offer employees under his Global Operations org the VERP. I work out of the MTC campus and people who would have been eligible were pi---d to find out they were excluded. There are good... — read more

Greg Smith shafting employees by not offering VERP

I heard Greg Smith made the decision NOT to offer any VERP for anyone under his Global Operations. This sounds like a good case for a class action lawsuit. I work at MTC and engineers in R&D that would have been eligible are pi---d!

Martha’s Compensation

The ex-GE boy genius received a 28% increase in compensation last year. I’m so glad I was able to help contribute by taking only a 2% raise, like everybody else. I’m sure his compensation package increases more after he lays off everyone. — read more

Why don't leaders get it?

Imagine this: Profit is an outcome of doing business the right way. How many executive leaders still here have forgotten the word "fair" in Tenant 4? Gaining profit and market share should not be the main goal. It is an outcome. As a publicly... — read more

MIP and Layoffs

The MIP policies seem to suggest that it is only paid to those who are still employed by Medtronic when it is paid out in July, even though it is for the fiscal year that ended in April. So it seems that even if layoffs were done in May or June... — read more
