R&D, operations, supply chains, post market support, manufacturing are all very difficult things to manage and require a lot of technical and process understanding. Decisions made by management have huge ripple effects on a project and when most decisions are made by those who don't understand the technical issues, this is what you get. A once great company starting to unravel.
