Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

October Lay Off Updates

I keep seeing post about October layoffs but no one is saying what department is in jeopardy? Do we not know? I’m just wondering if this time if it will be claims, benefits, Behavior Health, Evicore??? I know IT has already been hit pretty hard this year but wondering who’s department is next

@1r3 agreed its all yesman culture, you will survive if your managers likes you, and managers will like you when you hide their flaws, keeps the bodies hidden and most likely the executive leadership they report to are careless or inexperienced to not able to realize how they are tricked or fooled, it high time to get some good unbiased external auditors to get the right people saved and bad actors ousted, probably no one cares about business

I can't wait until Oct comes and I hope I'm on the chopping block. Forget about trying not to make it look obvious, it's so in your face, it's almost like they are flaunting how little they care about us. The leadership for customer service operations and enablement, yeah I said it, has replaced managers and brought in new Directors and Sr. Directors all from..... you guessed it.... Capital One! You know who you are, the person who goes by two initials who also is from Capital One. You aren't really "reorganizing" you are just replacing good people with your minions, more YES people from Capital One, who won't questions you bc you don't what you are doing. These people all have less experience and don't even know about our roles or have done our job. Save your breath about creating a positive work environment, this tells us everything we need to know. Whereas us peasants who actually do the work are trying to stay afloat you hire directors with huge salaries and bonuses. To do what exactly? Give us direction for things they know NOTHING ABOUT. Or how about the toxic managers who are left? How does one go from a coach to manager or supervisor to director in 5 years? That's three big jumps. Must be nice. I guess we don't scream and complain loud enough to work our way up the ladder. The micromanagement is out of control. But that's what you do when you don't know how to be a good leader or know what you are doing. This place su-ks.

Wish they would lay off terrible toxic managers. But we know that won’t happen because the toxic ones are the nepo hires who know they won’t get touched

@1dv Mine isnt locked either... I was able to go in and change mine. It has made, are we sure that they lock them a month before notification period? I wouldn't think they would be able to do that.

Is it possible everyone is locked down for making changes to the W-4. I seem unable as well.

Welp my W-4 is not available to edit, guess we will see if that is a sign or not….

@1ad curious how you can tell if it's locked in other words you can just look at your withholding but not make any changes

@1ad That was a clever way to get an early sneak peak as to what may be planned for you. Kudos for that! But very sorry you were laid off. I sincerely wish all the best in your future.

I knew I was getting let go because I went to change my tax withholding and it was locked. It was locked for an entire month before I was notified. I couldn’t make changes because they had already setup the severance package and all that.

@14a Any word on if the lay off date will be 10.8.2026? Or are they pushing it back?

@xc dont take it personally. the down vote is the fact that americans are losing their jobs and will end up working at walmart (if the hiring manager isn't ind3ian) because they are getting displaced because of outsourcing in india.

@vn You think there's going to be that many layoffs? I would agree with October. Then maybe another offer for VRP come January and then another layoff in March.

As we come to another non-pay week, I find myself asking, is it going to happen this week? Will I receive a late morning meeting invite with my boss on Thursday 9/24? For sure no way to live. After completing another two weeks and receiving my pay I tell myself I made it another two weeks. If I can just make it another two weeks. I know we are all just "at will" employees but I have never felt like this for any other job I've had.

I vote we becime the first company with an AI bot serving as CEO. I would trust it’s leadership more than BE’s.

@110 that's just the reality of IT now. They aren't hiring any US workers. I don't know of any other US tech workers since they all got laid off in the past year (which wasn't that many to begin with), currently it's either India or a hand full of UK workers.

1 - There is a lot of hate in these threads lately. Maybe it's nerves or frustration, but what happened to respecting other's opinions whether you agee with them or not? How about we work together towards the common goal of sharing information and let it stop there?

#2 - I suspect that IT will continue to be hit in any future rounds. On the external career postings there are 39 Technology jobs posted (mainly for Engineers and Developers) and only 5 in the US. Obviously a big swing compared to other job fields with current openings.

@nn why the downvote? It’s a fact that FTE employees cost more than contractors, factoring in benefits, 401k, severance.

@ks no, FTE costs the company more than contractors, especially if the contractor is via vendor

@mr for JE it doesn't matter, they will do it when they have to, putting efforts is moving 1-1 for that purpose doesn't make any sense is my humble opinion

by

Post ID: @ms+1m2gd9dkz

@jh very plausible. As a former senior manager, this is what is done for a JE conversation. Per HR, we would move a scheduled 1x1 to first thing in the am on a Thursday, particularly a first Thursday of the month. Oct is rumored to a month for JE's to take place.... so, the concern is valid. But it could also be nothing, 1x1's can get moved around all the time for a variety of reasons.

@kv

better a "keyboard hero" (whatever that means) than an impotent corporate cuck.

"career" is doing just fine but thanks for your concern. why not focus more on the immense brainpower that had you post this:

"company can run its operation how it sees fit."

I don't know any specifics on this situation and neither do you. maybe it's valid enough to squeeze a settlement.

at the very least, dealing with it will be an administrative hassle for dear old cigna...

have a blessed day 😘

But rally the troops. They sink just like your career is.

You should get clues, like work taken away, assigned to someone else, removing from some deliver list without notice, manager would always show all good nothing to worry

Post ID: @kn+1m2gd9dkz

@jh let us know tomorrow what happens. Could be coincidence, but the timing of the meeting and day does align with how and when notifications are given.

by

Post ID: @k6+1m2gd9dkz

@jh that just sounds like paranoia and we can’t adequately weigh in without context. Never heard of something like that before, but could be (and most likely is) that your friend’s manager now has a recurring meeting at that day/time and moved him to one more convenient for the manager.

Managers don’t take preemptive steps like that. They will keep your in the dark and act like nothing is happening til the day the news is broken to you.

So, a colleague of mine has asked a curious question. His 1 x 1 were always on a Tuesday at like 9 am CST or 10 am. Without any notice or advance emails, all of a sudden the 1x1's changed to like 8 a.m. on Thursday. He feels this is a move towards the 10/8 JE, but that date has been suspect for months now . Thoughts?
