First phase was to end work from home. Next is to cut teams to size for consolidations and eliminations. Regardless of how good you think you are targets are set and managers will be hard pressed to cut teams. All BU to be impacted.
Don't take these RIFs lightly get the word out there about this site.
Tech jobs make up 12% of the jobs in US do the math. China and India will eclipse our tech in just a few years. They will dominate the server cloud market and software they have massive brain power to do it. Nothing we have is really new that they... — read more
MH is notorious for ramping up then laying off. I would not hire on at Oracle thinking long term.
Regardless of business unit or product line. The strategy is cost reduction and only VP level knows final plan. Manager is unlikely to know what's coming regardless of hiring. Enter at your own risk.
Marketing Layoffs
Any updates on Marketing layoffs at Oracle?
I am scheduled for an interview. Is this a bad time to join Oracle? From the posts looks unpredictable.
Job says location is CA or MA.

Oracle celebrates closing the Netsuite deal with a heavy layoff of Product Engineers on Tuesday
East Coast sites confirmed
Does Oracle fire people or just lay them off? Fired people get no severance or unployment benefit.
It's cheaper to fire people do any companies fire instead of layoff?
It's not hard to see why Oracle is reacting with RIF activities when MH is at the helm.
http://forums.theregister.co.uk/forum/1/2015/10/26/oracle_predicts_who_will_own_cloud/ His ridiculous predictions and delusions will only cost the company it's reputation and bring it down faster than you think. By 2025 Oracle will be much less than... — read more
Considerable RIF activity to continue all BU will likely be impacted. Only VP are aware of full extent. Hits happening weekly and differing days
No understanding how decisions being made. Cuts in profitable areas, R&D and Ex- sun teams hit hard this week more expected. Usually under the radar and not announced in advance.
Good case for why sales have suffered http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/feature/The-case-for-commodity-hardware-vs-Oracle-Exadata-architecture
Enterprise spending is not supporting enormous costs of the Oracle systems with high price tags and licensing agreements. It will get worse with new competition in database. Microsoft aiming at Oracles bread and butter.
Severance
How they calculate the package? Two week for fist year and one week for each addition year?
Laying Off Remote Workers
I have a practical question - how does Oracle notify remote workers when they are laid off? How is the exit interview (or layoff interview) conducted - who participates and what do they tell you. Thank you!
No team is safe
No team is safe once the hack the groups down they will reorganize and consolidate. The point now I to gain as much efficiency as possible to compete on price. It's big hill to climb and profits and revenue are slipping with the transition to cloud... — read more

The storm looks to have started at least overcast with 95% chance of thunderstorms. Taking out whole teams!
Post any odd changes in BU's to give people a heads up and share the layoff site. Intel site is on fire since their big RIFs started in the spring. Time to plan.
Several former Sun employees got RIFs. 10-20 years experience. No team is safe not even cloud development/systems teams.
Teams in the US will see biggest impacts. Prepare for the worst.
RIF's and restructuring. No safe site except for cloud areas in low cost sites. EMC and HP have something in common.

Looking to leave to Amazon lab; am now with Oracle sparc servers CA. Trying to grow my career before they move my job to India or China. China will soon be serious competitor in the cloud server market.
