RA Machine Should Be Cranking Up About Now

Q2 end is around the corner which triggers next year planning which typically also kicks off RA process. This year is a curious one. Will Kyndryl separation be enough to satisfy RA god or will it demand more sacrifice? On one hand, the labor... — read more

Layoffs don't worry me

I've been laid off before and each time I ended up doing better than before. Yes, it wasn't easy for the first few months but I managed to bounce back each time. I wish people who spend 24/7 stressing over the possibility of losing their jobs... — read more

"Not rich enough to buy cheap things"

I love that idiom. I think IBM can afford cheap workforce for now that works on average well, but only because the company still has some employees who are great. For now, it kind of works. However, when all the talented and engaged leave, at some... — read more

It's still good for some

I know this will not be a popular opinion, but this is still a good workplace for fresh graduates and those who are looking to pad their resume with a few years working for a 'big name' company. It's those of us who've been here for a while who are... — read more

A little broken

Like many of us who were laid off during the pandemic last year it’s taken me this long to get over it. Even now I’m not sure that I’ve recovered completely, at least not emotionally. I was a fool to dedicate my life to IBM thinking that I was truly... — read more

IBM data centers will go to Kyndryl

Apparently, the managing and owning of IBM data centers will end up going over to Kyndryl. Not sure if this is news or anything, but, I just thought this information was interesting to hear. I don't know if that means all IBM data centers, or not. — read more

Voluntary redundancy plan in France - Update

IBM announced in early May a voluntary redundancy plan in France for up to 1251 people. We just learned that out of ~4900 employees, 2513 (more than half) asked for extra information and 1547 filed a complete and valid application, which required... — read more

Good culture means so much more than I expected

When I decided to leave my much smaller company for IBM I did my research and I knew what I was getting into, but the pay increase was large enough to make me think it would make up for it. I was wrong. Being able to enjoy your work, being able to... — read more

IBM leadership keeps making the same mistake

All they see when they push for getting rid of older and long tenured employees is the money they can save on their pay by hiring somebody new and cheaper. What they don't see is all the problems that come from losing so much long term institutional... — read more

Instant and Turbonomic

So with the recent acquisitions of both Instana and Turbonomic in the monitoring/observability space where does that leave Tivoli and its products? Looks to me IBM is ready to jettison all the Tivoli stuff… comments?

IBM does not understand its competition?

Amazon ECS Anywhere, Azure Arc, Google Anthos, the hyperscalers are all in on hybrid cloud now. IBM is going to need a lot more than just RH OpenShift and CloudPaks to counter them. Meanwhile IBM leadership delusionally still thinks VMWare is the... — read more

This is getting tiresome

Things are getting worse here daily. The toxic work environment has completely snuffed out any joy I had in doing my job and don't even get me started on all the bu-----t politics we have to deal with all the time. I miss the days when I didn't dread... — read more

Kyndryl Operations will be based in Rochester, MN

Apparently, since IBM RESO was unable to sell the real estate holdings in Rochester for anything more than a fire sale price, Kyndryl Operations will be based there, so the real estate can be included in the spin off. (Kyndryl HQ will be based in... — read more

IBMers are not motivated and don't want to work

Is it true many teams don't have much work and they are just fooling exec? Looks likes employees are tired of low pay raises and bonuses. Some people are only working 10-15 hours a week. In my team also I see few people doing the same. Is it the same... — read more

Best of IBM

Is the "Best of IBM" program what Golden Circle used to be, or something different? And does 100% club still exist? There was a time when 100% club was tiered, and you had to over-achieve to gain any benefit from it - 100% you got a pin and nothing... — read more

Never been happier to be wrong

First day at my new job...

and my boss says to me: Those boys at IBM ordered a stack of those Catch-of-the-Day boxes. I told them you would personally deliver them within the hour. UGH!!

Instead of raise, you can only get an excuse

Getting a raise here is a mission impossible. IBM is always ready with an excuse not to give you a raise. What’s the most lame excuse you got instead of the expected raise?

Experience with Reorg

Anyone want to share their thoughts on the experience of going through an IBM internal "Transformation?" (basically its a reorg) I know a lot of shared services teams in F&O went through them
