the way belk is operating is not normal. Period.
One more week!!
Let’s make it happen folks! The magic word- Conversion!
belk is going downhill fast
Belk after the holiday's is going to be a mix of empty shelves, no customers, layoffs, and store closings. what a complete mess. get out now if you can.
Overworked
Belk needs to hire more people. It is ridiculous the workload that the company puts on employees. It is Christmas season staff appropriately!
The love affair continues
From the macy's layoff page "We lost our DVP to Belks along with half the store managers in our district who he recruited. " So Belk is still hiring. Still recruiting. And still, after nearly two decades that I am familiar with, hiring Macy's... — read more
Why does Belk want to cater to low budget customers?
I’ve always wondered that. Wouldn’t it make more sense to attract customers that actually HAVE money to spend? Instead of someone trying to get another 65% off a sweater that is already $9.99?
Saw This on Macy's Layoff Page and It's Relevant to Belk
"If you are in your 20's, 30's, 40's or even your early 50's, you should consider alternatives while you can rather than stay with a company that will continue to downsize, increase workload to even more unmanageable levels, and have fewer and few... — read more
Covid Vaccine
Do y'all think the company will make it mandatory for employees to take the Covid 19 vaccine?
Covid is old news, it’s just an excuse to cut costs and make the executives richer!
belk is using covid as an excuse to cut costs to the bare minimum at the store level and use they money to give the executive team six figure bonuses, covid is the perfect excuse.
belk is not progressing after covid closures like other retail stores
Belk is not progressing the same way as other retail stores. It’s now mid-December, fitting rooms are still closed, lines are still long (One register open), furloughs have been called back, but where are they? Most of them are only working one day a... — read more
Bellyaching
Wow. This site has NOTHING to do with being laid off at Belk. It’s just a board to post all of your gripes. If you’re so miserable, your job is so bad, your hours are getting cut, One Belk is a farce, Executive leadership is non- existent... — read more
Looking back at all the “great memories”
I just want to send out a huge THANK YOU for all the grand memories you’ve given me so far. I’ve sooooo enjoyed all the hours that I’ve been overworked followed by an increase in stress levels caused by my managers. I especially applaud cutting my... — read more
Belk distribution center in Blythewood to undergo $2.5 million upgrade
Spending money on upgrading the warehouse. Albeit a rather small sum. Hmmm. That kinda goes against much of the scuttlebutt here that Belk will soon be bust. What about the stores you ask? What about them? Who needs stores anymore. Did... — read more
STM only working 5 day work weeks
Anyone else hearing STM's in some stores are working normal 5 day work weeks instead of the 6 day work weeks for the holiday? But still collecting their comp time?
Just know the slime you’re dealing with
just so you know...Don Hendricks HATES going in stores, he will make up any excuse to avoid it. He also refers to store level workers (managers included) as “those people” ...truly a slimeball.
RVP said he/she is looking elsewhere for new job and we should do the same
my RVP told me he/she will be gone very soon, and to start looking elsewhere. Said it will be a disaster next year
Is Belk in Liquidation without saying they are in Liquidation?
With these bizarre coupons, 70-80% off, scattershot merchandise, and lack of inventory...all signs point to it.
Overnight Shifts
Just wondering why Belk doesn't have merchandising, and fulfillment overnight. Wouldn't it be easier to meet the tier goal for fulfillment by picking the majority of the units at night, have people start packing at 7am, and finish up during the day?... — read more
Good managers quitting & RVPs not able to travel
Anyone else having multiple store managers quitting in their regions? Bailing before the ship sinks I take it? Also, our RVP was to visit our store this week but had to cancel due to a ban on travel. 🤔
A time of mediocrity
I have nothing against people using a calculator. However, and someone else has noticed this as well, if a person in a higher position cannot calculate a percentage of some small amount without using a calculator, I think that is not a good sign. I... — read more
Don’t threaten me with a good time
My manager is upset that sales are down and he’s taking it out on us, threatening to cut hours if he doesn’t see any ‘improvements’. We have had our hours cut to the bone, at this point if we get any more cut I’ll consider it a vacation from all the... — read more
Lisa Harper not seen in person since December 2019
A good friend at the SouthPark Belk in Charlotte said they haven’t seen Lisa Harper since December 2019. They said that raises all sorts of red flags as that is the flagship store and the gold standard for all belk stores.
Sycamore partners is only 9 years old
I’m surprised sycamore is only 9 years old, started in 2011. I bet they will all be in jail 9 years from now.
This is completely messed up
How many feel this way after being burnt out from being overworked? My SM has me doing everything under the sun because we are so short staffed. Don’t get me wrong, she’s right there trying to lessen the load, giving us pep talks and all, but... — read more
Other retailers know about the problems Belk is facing
went For job interview at Dillard’s (seems to be more stable than Belk financially), the interviewing manager stated that Belk’s employees are “fleeing to other retailers” and she knew all the problems belk is facing. Now belk has a bad reputation... — read more
Profitability of online orders?
Customers want to come, Belk doesn’t want them there, Belk doesn’t want them to order online. Why not to the opposite? Why not offer additional discount / coupon for in-store shopping? And then we read left and right that consumers habits are... — read more
one belk = doing other people’s work with no pay
One Belk is a sham, perhaps one of the biggest shams in the retail industry. -A $110,000 a year store manager picking and doing BOPUS all day and no grunt work....really? a $15 an hour HR associate cleaning... — read more
All I know ...One belk doesn’t work
Have to have individual accountability, folks. When you don’t, the majority of the work falls on a hand full of associates. Then the good ones get burned out and leave. This is not elementary school where participation ribbons should be handed out... — read more
Online ordering in 2020 is no different that catalog ordering in 1977
Maybe I’m just old, but who the heck would want to sit in their house and order clothing without touching, feeling, or trying it on. As a 67 yr old lady, trying on clothing is essential for me. I never understood the internet, smartphone obsession... — read more
Virus has all but k--led retail
It’s true. We’ve been experiencing this for a good 6 months or more. Even Black Friday didn’t have the anticipated turnout. If anyone is thinking of leaving, my advice is to leave retail all together. The direction the future is pointing towards is... — read more
Turkey day was a big turkey for retailers
Sure would like to hear some actual hard info about sales results. Evidently most who post here are worker bees, buzz-buzz-buzz, and are kept far away from the hive and real information. Painful to look at the circular. No fashion whatsoever. ... — read more
what will happen to Belk in 2021?
With such lackluster Black Friday results, what will happen in 2021? Mass store closures, bankruptcy, any ideas or “inside” information?

Christmas
If they’re closed, but doing STH with full staff today, Thanksgiving Day, will it be the same on Christmas Day? Anyone know if they’re making us work?
where will lisa Harper and Don Hendricks be on thanksgiving?
Anyone know for sure? Not in a store doing curbside orders I’m sure!!!
Sycamore firms up plans to purchase Ann Taylor and The Loft. Belk continues to slow pay, not pay vendors.
Two headlines and articles today from the same business publication! Amazing. The one specific to Belk restating Sycamore's penchant for juggling books and not paying as a "strategy" of their business. Meanwhile, in a local paper , an article... — read more
Black Friday Deals Look Lame
Honestly, I'm looking at the circular right now and there isn't anything that would have me rushing to the store. They've been selling a lot of this stuff dirt cheap for quite some time. Black Friday deals seems underwhelming. I would like to know... — read more
