Verizon is insanely diversified
This "could" be some of the problem for VZ, they're not just a spanking new wireless only company like say T-Mobile, which has all new infrastructure and a very finite set of assets to maintain. Verizon Wireless was a joint venture that happened to... — read more
I think the era of unions in the private sector is nearing the end of their existence.
They provided a vital benefit in times past, but with social media, jobs sites, LinkedIn, the plethora of places people can go to share their stories of bad treatment by employers and corporations, negatively impacting the quality of candidates which... — read more
VZ geographic consolidation
I find the geographic consolidation idea to be a scare tactic at some level. They merged two regions earlier this year. While some of the operation went OK, the scuttlebut is that issues on the systems and accounting side are still being dealt with... — read more

Exceptionally bad/arrogant/inept management

On the H1B Question
So our H1B engineers were brought in here with the assumption that there is a lack of US based engineers. Right? Now, when Verizon starts to layoff, it means they have extra resources that it is needed. So the original reason that they came, doesn't... — read more
Wireline / Backbone / FiOS services have become Utilities
I think their problem is the wireline / backbone / fios services have become Utilities, translates to very low margins. As a pure wireless entity like T-Mobile, being able to shop around for the best cost Utility is an advantage, a position Verizon... — read more
Why not split the company into 3 parts? Wireless, Enterprise, and CMB?
If the steet is measuring the combined performance of the company, it always looks CMB and Enterprise units are culprits. Let these be spinoff as separate companies so each unit can be fairly judged. That will reduce the need for layoffs.
