One reason for a company to feel comfortable buying out thousands upon thousands of managers might be because they already know that, in the very near future, there will be a lot fewer people to be managed? Further, if you read the New Contracting... — read more
TechCrunch
I am part of the the Verizon Media Group (TechCrunch) and we haven't been offered any buyouts - so, it was a non event for us and everyone is staying (no layoffs for now). Anyhow, it was fascinating to follow how things unfolded in real time on this... — read more
Worst In Class
If Hansy boy thinks this is the best way to go about a 7% workforce reduction, I can’t wait to see what else he has in store for us. He is not impressive.
I wish all well no matter what your choice is
I having not pushed the button am happy for those who did. I wish them well and enjoy hearing about there plans for life after VZ. For those staying like me, I offer words of encouragement and let them know we're all in this together. For those of... — read more
Phone and broadband markets are saturated
Phone and broadband markets are saturated - it's not a growth story anymore. Now it's about turning cost cutting, efficiency, and making themselves look like the FAANGs (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google) as much as possible. At the very... — read more
A Dry Hans Job
This whole thing was a sham from the very beginning. It was a way for Hans to see which leaders were willing to cut the fat sacrifice their people. Plus now they know which of us want to be riffed going forward. The c-sino always wins people.
This is a good sign for the economy!
What an ignorant bunch of nonsense in this CNN story (VZ layoffs are good for the economy): https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/10/business/verizon-worker-buyouts-economy/index.html
Enough???
I don't have any idea what numbers they were looking for, but 10400 out of 152k is less than 7%. I think that they could have easily dropped 10% with involuntary rif. I think that the people that are left behind should be looking out for the other... — read more

Fire before exit date?
Anyone else nervous they'll try to fire us before our exit dates? I find it fishy we can't sign the agreement until 15 days out...something seems wrong.

I was duped
In retrospect, I don’t think my leadership team had any intention of letting me go via the VSP. It was used in our workgroup to get rid of the most tenured people without accusations of age discrimination . I feel used, and it makes me sick to my... — read more

Saving $10 Billion?
If 10,400 accepted, and we do the math on the severance packages offered, that amounts to approximately $1.5 to $2B in savings. I'm basing that on high end packages of between 150,000 and 200,000. How do get to $10B without more RIFs?
So long and thanks for all the fish...
It’s been fun reading rumors and trading them back and forth. I got my VSP and am leaving this site. Best of luck to those that are staying... condolences to the denied.
VZ: 6 to 3
Call centers and Stores as well as individual market ops (reduce from 6 to 3) is next target, and they are not offered with VSP.

Verizon Announces It Will Cut 10,400 Employees Next Year
Got accepted but with a later date than expected.. can I quit?
Got accepted for 6/28, really needed 12/28 or 3/28. Can I just turn in my two weeks and quit? I know I would obviously be forfeiting the VSP package money, etc. Is that even possible?
Union EISP
OK when is our turn?
12,500 pushed, 10,400 accepted, they wanted 6k - 80% more than expected

New clause in Agreement
There is a new clause #14. in agreement about incoming changes to severance policy, which can be better (more advantageous) or worse (less advantageous) than today’s, nonetheless for they are changing the standard severance policy.
I got denied
13 years in this piece of $#@+ and I got denied. Wow!
Just got my approval letter. Best of luck to all.
I will remember the last 24 yrs fondly. Hope the SS Hans does good.

Informal survey to see if 90% accepted is BS

Another 34,000 to go
With a little over 10,000 approved, that leaves "only" another 34,000 for Verizon to fill its quota. Meaning, those of us who are left are really screwed. I'd just like to know if those who were rejected can consider themselves safe at least when it... — read more

Is the number correct?
Seems like everybody around me has been denied. I'm having trouble believing over 10k has been accepted and nobody around me is among them. I wouldn't be surprised if that number was one big lie.
This title is so wrong
