The company that invented the transistor, UNIX, and C should have had a bunch of people who could actually code and automate things. Instead they had a bunch of fat middle managers who got let go

@OP Problem is our leadership thinks things are automated we are so far behind. Everything is so manual, and not well thought out it’s like we are stuck on windows 95.

AT&T is a business, not a charity or nonprofit organization. I would hope it actively continues to pursue and test automation to Increase efficiency.
Bring back the switchboard operators.

Hard to keep up with how the big 3 compare. At one time we had more employees than the other 2. Not sure how Verizon’s acquisition of Frontier changed that. With the ruling that AT&T doesn’t have to provide traditional copper services in almost all of their territory the downsizing will accelerate. And not sure how to look at the number of overseas people they are using. Hopefully the next quarterly earnings call will show how many people we have lost.
The 85K headcount goal is interesting.
Let us all hope, that we are still around, the day when they are able to automate away Stank and the DRs. A ton of unnecessary cost and zero return on investment, time for some “automation” to rid T of this waste.
They forgot to mention that Jeremy Legg and Stankey are running this “automation effort” without knowing the most basic things about AI or automation. They have a fundamental misunderstanding of the technology.
