Verizon is stupid because instead of offering a VSP package to those that are ready to go and have already mentally checked out and won't leave until they get a "RIF package". They lay people off that care about the company and those that are energized and proud to work at Big Red. So they lay off the loyal employees that want to work their and keep the dead wood that don't produce any output other than gas and they don't want to be there anymore. Management does not want to offer VSP, they want to choose who gets laid off. Stupid.

There is something wrong with people that still care about the company, are energized and proud to work at Big Red.
What is left to be proud of? A toxic environment? Never-ending pointless reorg, rebadging and layoffs? Execs essentially showing you a middle finger wrapped in a corporate bullsh-t bingo language?
The situation is like the classic cartoon meme of a dog surrounded by flames still saying THIS IS FINE.

@OP The stupidity is waiting for a VSP when you the last one to take, which exceptions (some groups were explicitly excluded). Stupidity is not telling your boss, unofficially, that you are 'ready' for the next rif. Loyalty is an illusion. There are people that wait it out for a severance package - can you blame them? Others just leave.
So just leave if you are unhappy with how the company is now run....

VSP was a bad program to begin with, VSP should have worked similar to the stock incentive program at Amazon or others. Executives already receive packages. Anyone above Associate Director should not have been included in the VSP program. Still it would have been good for Verizon to go back and investigate hourly employees who abused the overtime policy. There were several employees out of Richardson that would charge overtime to compensate for what they thought they deserved a salary increase. To this day one of those employees use company resources to conduct non Verizon business.

Anyone that still "care[s] about the company and...are energized and proud to work at" this cesspool are simply too dimwitted to be of use to Verizon. These folks are best off as victims of the culling.
