Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon Belgian EMEA RIF

big issue. they want to move to start firing within a month without a social plan - payment&benefits on top of normal salary. its BIG NO NO here. legally they cannot do this. unions say its a joke and called ceo and the human resourses spineless. all this comes from mr cat in the bag.

@bc I'd say 70/30 in favor of the BE unions based on what they said in this morning's personnel's General Assembly.

@be in CZ it was ok, not "much better" for somebody who worked for Verizon for 15 years, considering that HR avoided section 52c organizational changes

Euro Guys. Join the CWU (Comminications Workers Union). Get proper support and advice. HR are winging it.

@be also the offer to a colleague in Hungary was v fair too she said. Could be better dealing direct and not through unions or workers counsel - may be their the issue

@bc not true. In Czechia the offer was much better than the minimum set by labour law and Czechia doesn't even have local union.

@aw true, this sh-t show is playing out in Germany too. Spoke to a mate over there and today HR announced that their negotiations with the local Works Council have officially failed.
HR had come to them multiple times with a voluntary package offer, but the WC kept pushing for more. Now that’s done the show’s over… They’re dragging the WC to court to sort out the figures.
No miracle for the EMEA lads then - everyone’s just getting the legal minimum before they kick them out.

I spoke to a colleague in Belgium and the situation over there is an absolute sh-tshow. Verizon didn't follow the local collective dismissal procedures and the unions are now taking them to court. VZ sites in several other countries are doing the same. From what I gathered, there's a specific procedure they were required to follow, and Verizon messed up big time. They're now in damage control mode. They assumed it was just a formality, and now they're facing serious pushback. The employees are pi---d and the vast majority are standing behind their reps.

It makes me uncomfortable to have to work in the same office as the HR people who will bend the rules and do whatever it takes whether it’s legally compliant or not to get people riffed. How can you look them in the eye and not feel sickened?

HR will just do what they’re told, they have no integrity and no decency either. I have heard across many countries how labor laws are being ignored in the hope staff volunteer and take a settlement. It is not the behavior of an ethical company

What's happening in EMEA these days, are they still dealing with works council details or are those details settled?

It's a proper shıtshow in EMEA, I feel like the ones who will be fired are the lucky ones.
