@bb covid may have changed the wfh requirements. Whole departments were told to work from home for an unspecified amount of time. They were not asked if they had high speed Internet nor a quiet space to work. For the most part this group is now hybrid working at home the same as when they left for covid.

@bb these are good pints. Never thought about the possibilities that people may not want/able to WFH

Also. They will cut more overhead in payroll moving people to WFH. Not everyone has a room where they can close the door and work uninterrupted all day. Not everyone has high speed internet. When Albuquerque closed, more than half of the employees did not opt to stay and go WFH. True there are more extremely rural locations within easy commute distance in NM than other spots, but every office will have at least 10-20% of people who don’t meet WFH requirements. It’s a layoff with a different name.

@ap honestly, I don’t have any more concrete details than you do, or anyone else in here. But from a profit/loss perspective, if you have employees with reduced overhead costs who can be flexible to do early morning or late night calls with India and other countries, it makes sense to keep them. WFH employees have a lot less overhead costs so seems logical to keep them.

You'll be WFH hopefully.

Would be no reason to target WFH. Company already cut the overhead by closing the offices, so those workers are cheapest in the company at that point. Only reason to worry would be if you aren’t performing. Otherwise, WFH provides happy, cheap, low overhead employees which is exactly the reason they are being closed.
