Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Those who got impacted / laid off recently; were you able to negotiate the severance?

What was the packages/ offers you guys got? Just asking to see if its worth trying to negotiate/ how to negotiate

If you really want to leave with any kind of leverage, do it on your own and refuse any counter offers. If you don't get a counter offers, maybe leave on accelerated notice. Cut the two weeks down to one and claim an urgent need at your future employer (which is none of their business by the way.) OR if you're going to work for the competition that makes it easy for both of you. Either way you are leaving on your own and don't owe them anything let alone courtesy even though that is a "norm" but nothing more.

A layoff is a corporate action due to downsizing or restructuring. You were fired for performance, whether you agree with the assessment or not. You can't negotiate the severance because you have no power. What would you do if they refused your counteroffer? Refuse to leave and continue working?

You can threaten to sue but if Ford thought you had a credible discrimination claim, you wouldn't have been fired.

@b9

I hope you at least got a severance. I would have just said thank you very much, took my money and left the call. Tell me where to send my stuff and we can be done with this.

@b5 for ontario look at online calculators for severance and not the government one but lawyers sites. Mine was about 10months and I'd been there 9 years

I recommend talking to https://www.pittlawpc.com/megan-bonanni before you sign. but yeah, there's no negotiation, you're gone, it's just if you sign or if you sue.

Anyone able to get a copy of their final PR? Supposedly separated for performance, yet given no indication at midterm that performance was an issue. This was a complete surprise.

You are just a number. They wring you out like a dishrag of all your hopes and dreams until you are a shell of your former self. Privatize the gains and socialize the losses. You are society's problem now.

@OP I got the call, LL6, then HR & LL5 immediately right afterwards, then the 3x5 index card was revealed and the reading started.

I put up with lots and lots over the years and knew this was my time, can't get a reference anyways, it's against company policy. All they will do is verify employment dates, if you are lucky.

I told them to stick this cr-p where the sun doesn't shine and lots of other verbiage - kiss my hind end !!!

I feel good and when it happens to you, man up there absolutely nothing to lose.

Does anyone know what the packages in Canada look like. I know we have way different rules then the US. Is it a month per year for those that were affected?

I got impacted in the last mass layoff in May and it was basically calculated by hoe many yrs of service you had. Package was decent but the waythey did it was inhumane and just a mess. Take it as a blessing, you will find something better (i found a fully remote position with the same pay i had)

Negotiate for what? When they give you a package, its your last day. They call you in, read a script and not speak to anything else. They just keep reading no matter what you say. They won't engage you. Creepy psycho as he-l. Your choices are sign and accept, or get nothing and try to sue. As far as the amount, its all formula driven and mapped on a table based on ranges on how many years you have. Where your number falls is how many months severence you'll get. If you have a pension, you'll also get an option to take your pension as a lump sum or annuity. The lump sum is a calculation based on an interest rate plus a couple other Ford factors they bake in. That's how it goes.
