Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Getting a new job?

How does it work for getting a new job? My last day at Verizon is in February. I don't want to wait until February to start looking I want to be able to look and possibly get a job. But if that happens before February do I have to tell Verizon? What is the ruling around this?

I have seen so many people on LinkedIn post that there in the market for a job and I kind of want to do the same thing but I don't want to jeopardize my severance.

you should start your job search as early as possible. it takes time to find a job. that is my regret. I got laid off in November 20 and I felt exhausted from what happened so I took a break over the holiday. But I started updating my resume and figuring out what I want to do next. Then I started circulating my resume in January. I had tons of interviews but no job offer yet.

@bc you do NOT get severance before your termination date. 30 days after.

@bc You absolutely can be paid for working multiple jobs simultaneously. Did you think all the stories about single moms working 3 jobs to make ends meet were made up or something?

There are plenty of remote workers calling themselves 'overemployed' as they work multiple salary jobs; it's mostly just that if your company finds out and didnt okay it they are likely to fire you. (And in many cases have contacted the other business(es) resulting in multiple job losses simultaneously)

IF your severance pay is in JANUARY even though your last day is in February, it should NOT matter as far as your severance. However, you can NOT be paid for working TWO jobs at the same time. Talk to an Employment lawyer!

If you're worried about losing severance because you got a new job 'early', you can apply for early release through your HRBP, though it requires 'organizational approval' and if approved will cause severance to be recalculated (though that should only matter for the benefits, I would think)

@a3 You're welcome. Feel free to continue to be a helpless, hapless mo--n incapable of independent thought.

Start updating your resume and pay someone who can format it for AI. Prepare for interview. Network. Move on. Make peace with yourself. The notification period is good enough to find a new job. It will take some time to find a job. Before you know it, you will get your severance by the time you find a new job. good luck to everyone.

Go get a job OP. You do not have to tell anyone at VZ. You do not have to tell if you join the new job before the end date. First get your severance though.

Go get the new job and don’t tell Verizon. Why would they need to know? It’s simple really

Update your resume.

Have your resume professionally rewritten to get past the HR AI filters.

Get on LinkedIn and talk to your friends in other places and do a lot of job searching there.

From now on, always be prepared to walk out the door from any and all future employers. They will never be loyal to you.
