How nice to be unavailable

I don't know what your situation is like but in my case I had to be almost always available. It drove me crazy, but I couldn’t afford to lose my job so I made myself always available. That has finally changed. I gave notice and I'm going where... — read more

Tales from the General

Stories for anybody who might be thinking, "General Motors couldn't be that bad." I've seen so many bad things in so many places in such a short amount of time. I am not the only one. The truth shall set us free!

How much extra work do you do?

It has never been a problem for me to do a bit of extra work, but in my case it's become an extra job, which maybe some new people should do. It is not normal to overload employees to this extent. We definitely need more people.

Forget about promotion and leave?

How hard did you work to get the promotion here? I worked very hard, I tried to be as engaged as possible, I love my job and I hoped to get promoted. That hasn't happened yet. I’ve heard from some people that it’s best to forget about promotion and... — read more

Retirement in your future?

With lump sum pensions anticipated to drop 10+ percent in the next months, are many considering retirement now? Will such present a “brain drain” or a welcoming situation?

The biggest complaints?

Although I haven't been here for a long time, I'm grateful to have been hired without much previous experience and I'm very proud to have had the opportunity to improve my skillset here. Maybe the reason for that is that I haven't changed a lot of... — read more

GM vehicle quality & reliability VS the competition

As a current owner of a 2018 Chevy Impala LT with the 3.6L V6, it’s been the most trouble free and reliable car I’ve ever owned. I just want to thank the men and woman who built these cars as they are very under appreciated and valued in the market... — read more

Pretending that everything is fine

I find our management funny when they try to convince us that the situation in the company is much better than it actually is. Almost all of us see how things stand, but they try in various ways to convince us that they have everything under control... — read more

GM is trying to change its corporate culture.

GM is trying to change its corporate culture. Please HR/leaders note that the old tyrannical culture will be there despite of all efforts as long as you allow the continuously low performing managers to stay in their positions. Why is GM still not a... — read more

Could you have done a lot more in another company?

Counting days to my retirement. I couldn't stand it here for a few more years. There were both good and bad things, but overall, if I could choose again, I would never spend most of my career here. I think I could have done a lot more had I been in... — read more

Those who have built an entire career here

I don't understand people who have built a long career here and are about to retire and have no or very little experience from another company??? It must be that this company was very different in the past or some people are simply loyal in spite... — read more

How did GM 2020 work out

I heard they helped clean house...if you're not with them you'll be left behind. What does that mean if the leaders are corrupt?

What makes the competition better?

I was very proud when I first came to GM, but the idealized image of this company quickly disappeared. No matter what, I always try to find hundred reasons why GM is better than the competition, but unfortunately, in many things the competition... — read more

Our products

Just by looking at our products it is clear how disoriented this company really is. Most of us don’t want to admit it, but our products have been a failure lately. The worst thing is that their quality is questionable. Just my two cents. When did... — read more

How much did you upgrade you skills while at GM?

I haven’t been at GM for a long time but almost everyone tells me to learn what I can and start looking for another company. I’ve tried, but I can’t say I’ve expanded my skillset much. I’m no longer learning in my current role. I’m still excited... — read more

March furloughs

It's been exactly a year since the big pandemic furlough of 2020. I'm curious whether all of those affected returned to work since then or did the company use the opportunity to cut some of them without anybody noticing? I'm betting at least some got... — read more

Do they even care about keeping the best people?

GM is ONLY good at growing talented individuals, into talented individuals that eventually end up working elsewhere. This is so true. GM knows how to grow talented individuals, but it doesn’t know how to keep them. Employees with high potential... — read more

Anxiety levels?

Could it be without so many layoffs?

I wonder what you think, was there any way to avoid layoffs at GM or at least keep their numbers lower? (and at the same time keep those at the top satisfied)
