Right Sizing Is An Unfortunate Necessity

I have no problem with the "right sizing" exercise of a publicly traded company. It's all about the bottom line and the corporate obligation to investors. Pretty basic. For those folks who have left the company as part of the layoffs this past year... — read more

Top Heavy

As a former employee and a current stockholder, the cuts need to start at the top. The CEO has completely mismanaged the company and the ELT are puppets waiting on their cut. Our dividends have been slashed and COPC is way too top heavy. Get rid of... — read more

Reservoir Engineering Technology?

In my opinion, one of the most useless groups is Reservoir Engineering Technology. The directors and managers are a bunch of world class dumb--ses - they might be able to simulate the flow of crap from your a** to the toilet, but they definitely... — read more

Exxon in talks to buy COP

Well we all knew this was eventually going to happen, but I have it from reliable sources that COP is a takeover target for ExxonMobil. This will be announced at the beginning of 2017.

Burn baby burn!

Good for people and company.

Seems like it would be good for the company to run a perpetual EOI, so that people that get tired of it can quit at any point in time with severance.

Dear Ryan....

Well, you screwed the pooch big time, haven't you. You must be a real fan of movies to have Purge 1 (April 2015), Purge 2 (October 2015) and heading into the sequel Purge-Election Year. How appropriate. I survived, or should I say suffered through... — read more

Here's Hoping

Can someone explain the numbers in L48?

In Don Hrap's L48 townhall today, he said there would be 6% layoffs globally and 12% layoffs within L48, equating to 350-380 people getting let go in L48. He also said we are currently staffed for 25 rigs but plan to staff for 12 rigs. Does laying... — read more

What a F*kUp company basically they gathered all the useless managers and VPs in a town hall meetings and asked them to fire 1000 employees.

"The Houston-based company confirmed Thursday that it will lay off about 1,000 employees this year, mostly from North American energy jobs in the U.S. and Canada. The cuts were outlined in a town hall meeting with management Thursday" What a F*kUp... — read more

Canada to lose 250-300 by 3rd week of September

Well there it is, right from the big man himself. 250-300 gone before Thanksgiving. Good luck to everyone in the Calgary office and all those effected elsewhere. Anyone have an idea where the majority of cuts will be?

HSE Staff

As I read through this board, I am silently amused by the ad hoc wry comments about being safe. When was the last time that an ELT member or the CEO mentioned HSE performance in a transparent light by discussing the challenge of maintaining or... — read more

EOI Awkward Time Period?

So let's assume the rumors are true that Aug 5th will be the EOI submittal date and Sept 12 is the official layoff date. What happens during that 5-week period where your boss and boss' boss already know that you're gone, but you're supposed to... — read more

Where can the biggest cuts occur?

I've only worked in a couple of the global BU's in my 15 years at COP. I don't have a good feel for where the big cuts can occur. Any ideas? If I had to hazard a guess, I'd suspect Canada, L48, Australia, UK. I bet Alaska will see minimal impact, as... — read more

Layoffs starting next Tuesday

Saw a message scrawled in blood on a wall in the basement of the Phillips building in Bartlesville. Looked legit to me, though I didn't get a DNA sample.

3 mos short of 55 and hBR

I got the news this morning. The HR guy thought I was heritage Phillips and assured me that in case of workforce reductions, the early retirement age drops to 50 (you get a bump in your payout at 55). Problem is, I'm heritage Burlington and I don't... — read more
