We lived just a mile away, had many beers after work at neighborhood cookouts.

Aaaaah. Noone wants to spend free time with their managers.

If you are on good terms with your boss, and a good employee, tell them informally you would like to volunteer.

Did so years ago and worked perfectly. He left shortly thereafter.

We lived just a mile away, had many beers after work at neighborhood cookouts.

Doubt many have that type of out-of-work ability to talk openly.

We both had had enough.

Old timers.

Going out on any leave (especially stress leave) will make it harder to lay you off because it would expose Cisco to retaliation.

If you're destined to be LR'd, being on (any kind of) leave will only delay the process. You'll be notified when you return.
