Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Apparently we are tracking to a December layoff

Not a fun post.

This has come up on Reddit too: the September list of people RIF’d was reduced from the original (some estimates had it being 2-3x longer).

There were a few reasons and to why the was reduced and I won’t get into them here. But at the end of the day, the remaining people from the original list will get RIF’d and the plan is December after the quarterly announcements.

It’s the same story based on budgets (RSU) - North American resources are expensive. M-levels can confirm that the first couple of list drafts are way longer than the actual final September RIF.

December will be the next round for US, Canada and India. $$ and details will go out in the Q2 10-q.

If you downvote this post, you’re not doing anyone a favor. I told people on here multiple times the date of the September RIF was not Sep 1 but Sep 15, and was downvoted. Management gets trained the week before on layoffs. Always (email or not).

Aim higher and you will get closer to your target. Aim for 10k total count or even 1k or even just 1 person company. If they fire another 30% right away nothing will happen. Go oracle learn from twitter.

@b8 depends on country and laws.

You can't legally do that in the EU.

Sure. Anyone can say anything on this site. It's not news that more RIFs are coming. We can only control our side. As such, stop worrying and trying to make others worry.

@ah wow Sales doing QA don’t we normally leave it to the customer?

This all seems highly speculative. Not saying O isn't heartless enough to fire people just before Christmas and I have seen it happen at other places where it was "unthinkable"

It's a given there will be more - don't worry, just prepare. If you are young, sharpen the resume, apply for jobs, etc. If you are old, prepare to retire if possible or have a plan B. Get ahead of these people so that when it happens, you are ready and have control of your own destiny.

Very likely true we have to get past AI World. With Salesforce setting the bar high. The Orange jacket brigade needs to get busy!!!

A post AI World is likely to happen. But may be even as early as the week before that has happened. But what we do know there will
always be more layoffs.

@ac the biggest reason was work impact the large reduction would have caused. We ended up going from (estimated) 150,500 to 144,300 employees in slack - that’s 6200 employees.

Imagine what another 4000 or 5000 employees on top of that would have done to sales teams….or product teams. There are business units where sales is QA’ing their latest product lol…

Why was the list reduced?

I believe there is truth to what the OP is saying. Oracle wants to AI everything and reduce head count drastically. I have heard it discussed they want to be close to 80-100K range. I think they plan to move more employees to contract roles - easier to hire/fire with less cost. Not sure how many of the 80-100K they plan on being full time vs contract roles. I would advice everyone to get their affairs in order expecting this. Best to be prepared.

So, come back a week or two before the supposed date and give us the updated news. You are stating you said September 1st. How do we know it's you?
