Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Unionize

Leadership keeps treating employees like cr-p, and we're just supposed to be okay with it. We have two CEOs, endless bureaucracy, bloated management, and a company direction that makes no sense - but somehow the problem is never with those above us.

A union would finally put a stop to treating employees like pawns, and force leadership to make real strategic decisions instead of hiding behind short-term tactical ones.

@d9 Billionaires may be accelerating it but there are far more reasons as to why America is declining. Billionaires got to be billionaires because the average person was buying as much of their products as they could. Look at how many entertainers and athletes are billionaires. It makes no sense they don't add that much value to life. Get the average person to be more frugal with how they spend and the number of billionaires will drop like a rock.

OP, 2 issues:

1 - Talk about unionizing only comes up for a few days right before and right after a major layoff and then it just goes away. If you want to unionize you need to follow through. Creating a union the day of a layoff is too late.

2 - The problems you listed "two CEOs, endless bureaucracy, bloated management, and a company direction that makes no sense" aren't decisions that a union would have any say or at least not any more say than any other shareholder. A union might get you pay raises, promotions, improved benefits, and probably better layoff packages but they don't run the company.

Focus on getting people committed to following through on forming a union and then see how much power you hold. Things might not change that much but it is worth a try.

Normally, I would agree. I’m not anti-union at all. But Oracle’s problems run much deeper than having co-CEOs who remain largely invisible outside the company because Larry is so prominent, or than Larry having led the company for way too long.

Oracle’s core problems now are its debt, its close relationship with OpenAI, whose model appears to be intrinsically flawed and unprofitable, and its place among a group of companies whose leaders seem to be suffering from acute AI psychosis. Unionization is not going to solve these issues, particularly if Oracle and OpenAI may already be dead.
